New Jersey Relay is a no-cost service to enable people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind or have a Speech Disability to make and receive phone calls.
Relay Conference Captioning (RCC) can be a big advantage for small businesses working with clients remotely, especially when clear communication, professionalism, and inclusion matter. Here are several practical ways RCC helps:
1. Improves communication clarity. RCC provides real‑time captions during virtual meetings, calls, and presentations. This helps to ensure nothing is missed.
2. Creates more inclusive client experiences. By offering captions, businesses make video meetings accessible to clients who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Accessibility signals professionalism and respect.
3. Reduces misunderstandings and improves follow-up. With RCC you can download a full transcript after the meeting. Transcripts can help clients and staff catch important details, confirm next steps, and avoid costly miscommunication
4. Supports remote and hybrid work. With RCC, captions can be used during: video calls, conference calls, and webinars. This makes remote collaboration smoother for both employees and clients—no matter where they’re located.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) often affects speech over time. Many people with ALS experience dysarthria, which can cause speech to become slow, slurred, quiet, strained, or difficult to understand. For most people with ALS, there comes a point when their communication needs change—and that’s where accessible phone technology and services by NJ Relay matters.
This #ALSAwarenessMonth, we recognize that everyone deserves communication options that preserve dignity, independence, and connection. Accessible relay services help people with ALS stay heard—at every stage of the journey.

When you have a speech difference or disability some days are easier to talk on the phone than others. For the days where your communication needs a little extra support you can use IP Relay. IP Relay is a texting-based relay service where what you text is voiced on calls for you by a relay operator. And everything that is said by the other party is written out for you to read on your IP Relay app.

Tourette Syndrome can include motor or vocal tics that are often beyond a person’s control. While tics don’t define intelligence or professionalism, situations like phone interviews, virtual meetings, or other calls can feel especially stressful.
New Jersey Relay can help take the stress out of making important phone calls with services designed specifically for people with speech differences.
With Hearing Carry-Over (HCO), IP Relay, and Relay Conference Captioning (RCC) you have the option of typing out your message and having your words spoken on calls for you by a relay operator.
-IP Relay makes this calling option available on phones, tablets, or computers through the IP Relay app.
-HCO offers the same style of calling service but through a landline HCO device.
-RCC also allows a user’s written words to be voiced for them by a relay operator but on video meetings, webinars, and conference calls.

Speech‑to‑Speech (STS) supports people with speech differences by providing trained communication assistants who help make phone calls clear—while you stay in control of the conversation.
Whether it’s calling a doctor, a workplace, or a loved one, STS helps turn communication into confidence.

Neurofibromatosis (NF) affects 1 in every 2,500 births, yet it’s often called “the most common disorder you’ve never heard of.” NF is a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerves, often affecting the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. These tumors can impact movement, coordination, and communication.
Relay services can support people with NF who experience speech differences or hearing loss by making phone communication more accessible. If you or someone you know needs assistance learning how to use relay services, send us a DM! We are always available to help.

May is Global Accessibility Awareness Month. At New Jersey Relay, accessibility isn’t just something we recognize in May—it’s a 365‑day‑a‑year commitment to ensuring people can accessibly connect through telecommunication services.
One of our most powerful digital accessibility tools is Relay Conference Captioning (RCC). RCC goes beyond high‑quality live captioning for video meetings, webinars, and conference calls. It also offers tools that allow people with speech differences to have their written words voiced during events and supports braille accessibility for people who are DeafBlind or have low vision.
Accessibility opens doors to participation, connection, and inclusion. Learn more about unlocking those doors with RCC by visiting https://t.co/solN3OrTTx

Apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder that makes it hard for the brain to send the right messages to the mouth to form sounds and words. This can make speaking difficult. Relay services can help support communication over the phone with services such as Speech-to-Speech, Hearing Carry-Over (HCO), IP Relay, and Relay Conference Captioning (RCC).
Everyone deserves access to communication that works for them and New Jersey Relay offers no-cost options to support people with Apraxia and other speech differences. Sign up for either an online or in-person presentation with one of our outreach specialists to learn more about which services would work best for your needs. https://t.co/iST3nBufvC

2.Speak clearly and in your regular tone of voice.
3.Minimize background noises such as from televisions or music.
4.Speak with each other in well-lit areas.
5.Use Relay Conference Captioning (RCC) when on video meetings, webinars, or conference calls. https://t.co/solN3OrTTx
Small changes can make a big difference. Even mild hearing loss can affect communication, but thoughtful habits can help make the workplace inclusive for everyone on your team!

Speech-to-Speech (STS) and IP Relay are both services that are designed to make phone communication more accessible to people with speech differences. They are both available at no cost to people who live or work in New Jersey. And they are both available 24/7.
So, what is the main difference?
With STS, you speak and with IP Relay, you text!
On an STS call, you talk on your call and a relay operator re-voices your spoken words as needed for clarity. With IP Relay, you text using the IP Relay app and everything you type is spoken on the call by a relay operator for you.
And the best part? You can always choose between either service depending on your needs.
ID: [New Jersey Relay logo. “To services, one mission. To make phone calls accessible to people with speech differences.” A list for STS, “STS. People with speech differences can use this service. You speak on your call, the relay operator re-voices when needed for clarity. No cost to use. Available 24/7.” A list for IP Relay. “IP Relay. People with speech differences can use this service. You text your message, the relay operator voices your written words on the call. No cost to use. Available 24/7.”]
One key step in fostering an inclusive environment in your business is educating your entire team on how to accept relay calls. By ensuring that all employees understand how to communicate effectively with people who use relay services, you can create a more welcoming atmosphere and get accessibly connected with your customers!
