Last week, we celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the War Dog Memorial at the NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial and Museum. This re-dedication ceremony was a special way to recognize and honor our nation's military working dogs and their handlers.

Last week, Commissioner Vincent Solomeno spoke at the Disabled American Veterans Department of New Jersey's annual convention, where he presented Robert Buccino, Commander, Disabled American Veterans Department of New Jersey, with the New Jersey Commendation Medal.

Last week during Women Veterans Appreciation Week, we honored 24 women veterans for their service in a State Medals Ceremony during the American Legion Department of New Jersey's Annual State Convention. We are proud to honor the brave women who have served our country.

Esther Chucaralao, Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, and Lucy DelGaudio, Women Veterans Coordinator, Division of Veterans Services, also presented a proclamation from Governor Mikie Sherrill that designates June 12, 2026, as Women Veterans Day. Commissioner Vincent Solomeno recently stopped by the Wildwoods Vietnam Memorial Wall is located in Columbus Park directly across from the Wildwoods Convention Center.

Did you know the wall is an exact, half-size, black granite replica of the official Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.? Spanning 240 feet long and standing 5 feet tall, it features all 58,913 names in the country's fallen heroes from the Vietnam War. We encourage you to pay a visit this summer!

Last week, the American Legion Department of New Jersey held its 107th Annual State Convention. During the convention, Commissioner Vincent Solomeno, along with Brig. Gen. Derek B. Routt, Assistant Adjutant General - Air, spoke and presented Dan Channel, Commander, American Legion, Department of New Jersey, with the New Jersey Commendation Medal. We are proud to honor Commander Channel for his exemplary service to our country.

Next week on June 23, the 1,566th Vietnam Veteran will be added to the wall at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. Killed in action in 1968, New Jerseyan Carl D. Wadleigh was mistakenly identified in 1972 with the error only corrected in 1989. All are welcome to join this ceremony to give Carl the welcome home he deserves!

Happy Flag Day! The 10th Annual Flags of Liberty Ceremony recently honored more Veterans than ever before! 297 Veterans were honored, and 230 flags were unfurled as families, supporters, and volunteers gathered.

June 12 is Women Veterans Appreciation Day. Today and every day, we honor the service, sacrifices, and contributions of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This date marks the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948, which gave women the right to serve as permanent members of the military.

This day is important because it recognizes the unique experiences and challenges women veterans often face after service, including healthcare disparities, family responsibilities, and not always being recognized as veterans within their communities. During the annual New Jersey State Elks Association Convention on June 5, Commissioner Vincent Solomeno spoke and presented William W. Dow, Jr., President of the New Jersey State Elks Association, with the New Jersey Commendation Medal.

82 years ago, Allied troops launched the D-Day invasion into occupied France. @LtGovCaldwellNJ joined New Jersey’s commemoration with @NJ_Veterans Commissioner Vincent Solomeno III and veterans to honor the service and sacrifice of all who stormed the beaches that day.

This week, we hosted a D-Day Recognition Ceremony at the World War II Memorial to recognize the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day. Thank you to all who gathered to help us honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of service members who answered the call on June 6, 1944.
