I saw someone ask, “What exactly has Edwin Sifuna done in the Senate?”
Fair question.
Because in Kenyan politics, too many leaders are loud on TV and silent in Parliament.
So I checked the record.
So far, Sifuna has tabled 3 Bills and pushed 3 major people-centred motions:
1. Sports (Amendment) Bill
To reform sports governance, improve accountability in sports bodies, and protect athletes from mismanagement.
2. Energy (Amendment) Bill
To address high electricity costs, strengthen regulation in the energy sector, and push for fairer pricing for consumers.
3. Office of the County Printer Bill
To institutionalize county publication of laws and notices, making county governments more transparent and accountable.
And his motions?
1. Abolishing parking fees in hospitals, malls and airports
Because access to hospitals and essential services should not come with punitive charges.
2. Inquiry into deputy governors’ welfare and protection
To address the growing trend of political frustration, humiliation and sidelining of deputy governors.
3. Electricity cost reduction reforms
To push government and regulators to lower the cost of power for households and businesses.
On top of that, he has been active in Senate oversight committees, questioning governors, including Johnson Sakaja, on accountability. He has also submitted several statements in the Senate. And much more is on the way.
This is why some of us support Sifuna.
Not because we are blind.
Not because of party loyalty.
But because we checked the receipts.
Before dismissing him, show us your MP or Senator’s record first.
Uhuru the dynasty spent Ksh 90 billion in 10 years,
Ruto the hustler has already spent Ksh 89 billion in 3 years…
Yet, this is at a time when the education sector is facing huge financial challenges, and our health sector at the verge of collapse.
Education PS says the ministry cannot fund the full capitation for primary and secondary school students, and Health CS admits that public hospitals are experiencing drug shortages.
Let’s stop pretending.
Kenyans suffered under Kimani Ichung’wah.
He pushed the Finance Bill 2024 and others down our throats.
When we cried out, he told MPs to ignore us.
IGNORE US.
There were even reports he said Kenya can burn, he has a home in South Africa.
So forgive some of us for not shedding tears now.
When Rigathi Gachagua calls him out,
it feels like begining of justice.
Among the Development Projects we have done in Kiharu Constituency, this is quite elating.
The MWAI KIBAKI Tuition Block is almost ready for learners at Kiharu Technical and Vocational College (Kiharu TVC).
President Mwai Kibaki is a Leader who woke up every morning as President to serve our Country, Kenya. He subjugated his personal aggrandisement and this gave him clarity of thought & purpose. Our Country rose to unprecedented levels Economically.
We are African and Africa is our Business..
They told us SHA is working. They told us Kenya has "the best healthcare in Africa."
But when sickness comes, even they run abroad.
If Raila must fly to Dubai for treatment, what happens to the mother in Turkana or the child in Migori?
This is why I’ll keep saying, we are the only ones who will rescue ourselves. Politicians won't . 🇰🇪💔
In my honest opinion, there is absolutely no issue with having a prayer room within State House for the personal devotion of the Head of State. If the President is a Christian, it can be a chapel, if he is Muslim, a musalla or whatever space aligns with his faith.
State House has numerous rooms and auxiliary buildings. Dedicating one of them for spiritual reflection is entirely reasonable. Any modest funds required to equip or maintain that room can rightly come from the government, as State House is a public institution.
However, constructing a mega church within State House, then justifying it by saying it’s funded with personal money not only defies the spirit of our constitutional order, but also raises serious questions of accountability and propriety.
To put this into perspective, can I as Pauline, decide to take a portion of Githiga High School to build a church using my own money, even without any consultation with the public or consideration for the community? Of course not. That would be a blatant violation of public trust. The principle remains the same, no matter one’s title or position.
A chapel already exists within State House. If an upgrade or renovation is needed, the proper procedure should be followed. beginning with a justification submitted to the Treasury, and proceeding through parliamentary approval, just like any other government expenditure. What should not happen is someone simply waking up and deciding to use personal money to construct a building on public land. That bypasses established processes and undermines public accountability.
