Eyebrows raised around the room as one of the chairs refers to “more valuable migrants” at the Conciliation Committee Meeting.

This will certainly raise questions as to whether the Councils are listening to the loud voices heard by Oxfam and Human Rights Watch.

I’’ve just had a good conversation with the Hungarian PM. Hungary will, as we expected, be the source of some tension in proceedings. But as long as the EU votes for equity rather than equality of responsibility for migrants, they are as committed as most to helping migrants.

My sources tell me that Oxford and Human Rights Watch are pushing for states to put the blame game aside and share the responsibility of migrants and asylum-seekers. Let us see whether all members play ball.
