A constructive relationship with China is important to the Netherlands. China is our largest trading partner in Asia. The Dutch government is keen to further strengthen our cooperation in areas including the green transition, water management and agriculture.

I was therefore glad to have the chance to speak for first time with the Chinese Premier Li Qiang today. We discussed the importance of constructive ties, both bilateral and between the EU and China, in order to tackle structural challenges. We also spoke about the need for an open dialogue on geo-economic matters and Russia’s ongoing war of aggression in Ukraine.

Tomorrow it will be four years to the day since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine is fighting every day for its freedom. And the war in Ukraine is about the security of Europe as a whole.

On my first day as prime minister I called President @ZelenskyyUa to assure him that Ukraine can count on the Netherlands’ undiminished support.
