On May 5th, the Netherlands marks Liberation Day. We reflect on the end of the Second World War, and the fact that it enables us to live in freedom – while recognising that we must never take peace and freedom for granted.

On May 4th, the Netherlands commemorates all victims of war. We remember all – civilians and soldiers – who have been killed in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere in the world in war situations or during peacekeeping operations since the outbreak of the Second World War.
