I'm going to the other extreme. For my next tournament I am flying in on the morning of an 11:00am round and flying back the next day a few hours after the final round.
Wish me luck!
Something that drives me crazy is the widespread practice among chess organizers of including an “arrival day” and a “departure day” as part of the official schedule, when there is nothing in the program on those days.
Apparently it started in official/FIDE events, and in particular the olympiads, because the more days an event lasted, the more money officials would get as stipend. But then everybody followed. 🤦♀️
Other sports don't do that. It makes chess competitions look even longer than they are and confuses people about when they actually have to fly in and out.
Please consider supporting my personal goal of raising $250 by chipping in here:

Any contribution of any size is a tremendous help and is much appreciated!
Thank you so much!
I'm really excited and proud to be organizing this event, especially as two of my students who had their wishes granted by Make-A-Wish will be participating. Both beat childhood cancer and both continue to help raise money to help others.
Proud to partner with @MakeAWishCT to run "Chess For Wishes," a charity tournament with a goal to raise $10,000 to bring hope to children facing critical illnesses.
