•Keys to any offices and vehicles should be kept in a locked safe only accessible to authorized personnel.
•Students are encouraged to remove valuables from their residences if they will be gone for extended periods of time.

On March 9, 2022, @NMSUPolice was contacted regarding a burglary from a residence on Gregg St on the main campus. On March 17, 2022, @NMSUPolice was contacted regarding a burglary from a residence on Standley Dr on the main campus. Laptops and electronics were taken from both.

Safety Tips:
•Ensure doors and windows are locked at the close of business each day (or when you leave, for residences).
•Back up computer hard drives on a regular basis.
•Large amounts of valuables might result in a targeted theft. Consider having an alarm system installed.

We suggest following the below safety precautions if you suspect it is a scam:
• Request officers identify themselves and provide
badge number
• Don't provide personal information telephonically
• If you receive one of these calls, hang up
immediately and block the number.

@NMSUPolice is encouraging community residents to be cautious as at least two different callers have been telephonically contacting campus members identifying themselves as police officers requesting personal information.

Over the course of two weeks, @NMSUPolice arrested three people suspected of bike theft. Joseph Garcia (left), Armando Salcido (middle), and Sara Brewer (right) were caught at different times attempting to or successfully cutting the locks off of bicycles on campus.

Securing your bicycle is a good way to protect your property and using a U-style lock is recommended. It may cost more than others, but is much harder to cut. If your bike has been stolen on campus, please report it as soon as possible.
