@HumanRightsCtte I welcome this report on the risks to UK supply chains from forced labour.
And do read our latest report from @RightsPractice on state-imposed forced labour in #China.

“...issuing of further arrest warrants and bounties on individuals living in the UK is another example of transnational repression. It encourages reckless behaviour on UK soil and damages Hong Kong’s international reputation." @YvetteCooperMP@DavidLammy

This is entirely incorrect. The treaty remains suspended. The new law completes the severing of extradition ties.
We are resolute in our commitment to human rights, the rule of law, and safety of all in the UK. That goes for all Hong Kongers who have made our country their home.
This is very concerning. How on earth did this idea even get off the ground?
The 2019 protests were about fear of extradition to China. And since 2020 we have seen the rule of law in Hong Kong look more like what @RightsPractice observes on the mainland.
Government plans to reintroduce extradition cooperation with Hong Kong are highly concerning.
Why does the Government deem this reasonable when freedom of expression, political freedom and the rule of law in Hong Kong have been crushed by The National Security Law and the extradition of Hong Kongers to mainland China made possible?
I urge the Government to give urgent reassurances on how this system will be safely managed and what protections will be put in place to ensure no Hong Konger, CCP critic or anyone targeted by the CCP will be extradited under the new arrangement.
Our purpose in producing this report was to illustrate the systemic nature of state-imposed forced labour in China and the way it operates in places of detention and through labour transfer schemes.
It is driven by political rather than economic interests.

READ our important new report: When the State Makes you Work. The use of state-imposed forced labour in China.
State-imposed forced labour is a systemic practice in China using both the state’s powers to detain and to assign labour.

Last year’s exoneration of Hakamada Iwao laid bare unfairness of Japan’s criminal justice system and #deathpenalty. Instead of moving to reform and ensure full protection of #humanrights, government has chosen to resume executions. A significant setback

A very thoughtful exhibition on Hong Kong’s social movements.
In London until the 26th May. Do go along. @RightsPractice was proud to help bring this together.

Li Yanhe grew up in #China but moved to Taiwan in 2009, where he started Gusa Press, publishing Chinese books and translations, incl. ones critical of the CCP.
He returned home to see family in 2023. On March 26, he was sentenced to 3 yrs in prison.
!!!!!!! Devastating Confirmed News!!!!!!
The Thai Prime Minister has effectively condemned 40 Uyghur refugees to grave danger by repatriating them to China, despite their long-standing ordeal of severe mistreatment in a Thai refugee center and the well-documented risk of torture and possible death upon their return. This act makes Thailand complicit in egregious human rights violations, and it must be held accountable for its role in perpetuating what amounts to an act of genocide. She is also individually responsible.
"Thailand's transfer of Uyghur detainees to China constitutes a blatant violation of Thailand's obligation under domestic and international laws," said @PearsonElaine, Asia Director, @hrw.

Iranian human rights defender #SharifehMohammadi is facing execution after a Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death again in Feb 2025 following a grossly unfair trial. Her conviction & death sentence must be quashed & Sharifeh Mohammadi released NOW! https://t.co/6hRShZckC2
“My father turns 78 this year. With his current National Security Law trial that is ongoing at this very moment, he stands to face a maximum sentence of life in prison, though just another 5 years will probably have the same effect given his age and health... In a recent court hearing, after a heated exchange, my father replied, ‘In the end of the day, the truth will come out in the kingdom of God, and that is good enough for me.’”

Malaysian Pannir Selvam Pranthaman faces execution in #Singapore this Thursday. Several #humanrights violations affect his case, which would render his execution arbitrary and unlawful under int'l law+standards. Help us ask @govsingapore to stop execution
