Who Invented Proof of Work?
The concept of proof of work was first proposed by Cynthia Dwork and Moni Naor in a 1993 paper titled “Pricing via Processing or Combating Junk Mail”. In the paper, Dwork and Naor proposed the use of computational power as a way to combat spam emails
The proof of work system that Back proposed was very similar to the one that is used by Bitcoin today. Satoshi Nakamoto was the first to implement proof of work in 2008 as a way to create Bitcoin, the first decentralized cryptocurrency.
