Woodrow Wilson, the progressive president who led America through the Great War and championed the League of Nations, understood that socialism required nationalism better than anyone.

In his 1887 essay "Socialism and Democracy," Wilson argued that true socialism and true democracy are, in their fundamental theory, indistinguishable.

In his own words, "They both rest at bottom upon the absolute right of the community to determine its own destiny and that of its members".

Wilson further argued that the difference between democracy and socialism was merely a difference of organization and policy, not one of "primary motive”.

When the Great War came, Wilson observed firsthand the failure of socialist internationalism.

In a 1919 speech, he declared:
"The appeal to patriotism of each man in the countries that have been at war was too great to be overcome by socialists. We thought that socialism would prevent the successful carrying on of the war in some nations, but this was disproved".

Wilson was no communist. He was, in his own words, a progressive nationalist, who believed the state should serve the nation.

And Wilson knew that when forced to choose between internationalist ideology and patriotic conviction, true socialists would, and did, choose their country.

Theodore Roosevelt, the man whose "New Nationalism" gives the NNA its name:

When his critics derided him as a socialist for defending the workingman, he refused to be intimidated.

In his autobiography, he recounted how many had referred to him as a Socialist due to the things he accomplished on behalf of the workingman.

Not merely was Roosevelt unafraid of being branded as a Socialist, but he in fact expressed his belief that:
“Many American Socialists are high-minded and honorable citizens".

He continued on:
"They are oppressed by the brutalities and industrial injustices which we see everywhere about us … The principles or methods which the Socialists advocate and which I believe to be in the interest of the people I support, and those which I believe to be against the interest of the people I oppose".

Socialism, if it were defined as protecting the weak from the powerful, was in fact a term that Teddy Roosevelt explicitly identified with. In his own words:

"If socialism is really defined as not letting the privileged run over the less fortunate, then I am guilty. If socialism is about fair play, then I am guilty. If socialism is about helping the less fortunate, or less able, then I am guilty".

If you are a socialist who has grown disillusioned with the New Left, tired of performative activism, tired of identity politics that divide rather than unite, tired of a movement that hates its own country, your natural home is the NNA.

The NNA does not ask you to abandon your commitment to the working class.

It asks you to recognize that the working class is American first, that the nation is the only vehicle capable of delivering economic justice, that internationalism has failed, that the corporations that exploit workers are the same corporations that profit from open borders and free trade.

The NNA does not ask you to become either a conservative or a liberal.

But it does ask you to recognize that the Left has abandoned the working class, and that only a movement rooted in American producerism can deliver the industrial revival, the labor power, and the economic dignity that socialism promised, yet has never completely delivered.

WHAT WE STAND FOR:

1. End the rule of the parties.
A nation cannot be governed by a corrupt political machine that exclusively serves donor interests. To solve this crisis, we must replace geographic districts with industrial elections where Americans elect their own to represent them. We will end gerrymandering, ban corporate PACs, cap politicians' salaries to the average wage, and enforce term limits at 65.

2. Rebuild American industry.
We have lost millions of manufacturing jobs since 1979. Tens of thousands of factories have closed. The NNA will impose tariffs on imports, revoke China's Most Favored Nation status, and require domestic content in all goods sold in America. We will reopen the mines, rebuild the mills, and make America the workshop of the world once again.

3. Nationalize the essentials.
Utilities, energy, rail, and defense production belong to the American people. We will transfer water, electricity, natural gas, hydrocarbon extraction, and all military production to public ownership. No more profiteering at the expense of the American worker.

4. End income taxation.
No American will ever again see a penny withheld from their paycheck. We will abolish all income, property, and sales taxes, substituting their revenues with tariffs and state dividends from public investments. The worker's labor will fund infrastructure directly, without passing through the hands of the tax collector.

5. Restore labor's power.
We will repeal "right-to-work" laws, protect the disciplined use of the right to strike, establish sectoral bargaining, and mandate worker representation on the boards of all private firms with more than 100 employees. A forty-hour work week will be enforced by law. Paid family and medical leave will be guaranteed.

6. Build a citizen militia.
The professional army has become a separate caste, serving contractors rather than the nation. We will replace it with universal citizen conscription: One to four years of service for every able-bodied American.

7. Nationalize the Federal Reserve.
The power to create money is the power to govern. The Federal Reserve is a private cartel, accountable to no one. We will transfer all its functions to a Public Monetary Authority, democratically accountable, with a mandate of price stability, full employment, and zero-interest financing for public infrastructure.

8. Protect American sovereignty.
We will secure the Southern border, phase out non-American labor, and deport criminal & subversive illegal aliens. We will enforce and extend the Monroe Doctrine: Not only may no foreign power establish any military footholds in the Western Hemisphere, but they may not subvert American economic interests as well. We will remain in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization so long as our allies pay their fair share, and we will stand with democratic small nations around the globe against the ever-encroaching Axis of Evil.
