The Matrix essay is live.
I’m not looking at it as a puzzle about whether reality is fake. I’m looking at what the false world is for.
This one is about extraction.

Tomorrow at 9 AM ET, the next Nightmares & Nerdscapes essay goes live.
The Matrix is usually framed as simulation and awakening. I’m looking at what the false world is for.

@dfw_ella_ The original picture that started the whole thing had yellow in it, but thematically, I think yellow reflected to cowardice Clark when it came to facing the fact that he was truly his own villain.
The Matrix essay is moving to next week.
I want this one to land properly, so I’m giving it a little more production time instead of rushing it out before travel.
Still part of the Artificial Worlds arc. Still very much on the way.
The system is still loading.
@serphyyx the downside to that is that he found peace in an environment where everything and everyone was a facsimile of who they were in real life. That's terrifying to think about.
@youluvvdanii I think it's a bit simpler in that Capt Clark was the real Clark. The only source of true pain in the entire structure; at least that we were exposed to. Everything else is a weak facsimile of the truth. Capt Clark, however, was the truth.
@stephafterhours In that context, I feel like The Backrooms are an analog for the massive amount of weight he's put himself under. His own emotional shortcomings are writing checks that his lack of self awareness can't cash.
I'm suddenly seeing a lot more #backrooms discussion on my feed so I'd like to invite folks to take a look at my interpretation of the system behind the film. Would love to hear others thoughts.

@Eval_00 That's the swerve. Had Bear simply been honest with himself and self aware, he would've had exactly what he was originally looking for with Nikki, but with a healthier version with Sarah.
@Eval_00 If they're populated by incorrect memories of real people, then she reflected the calm, submissive wife that Clark was looking for and maybe had as long as he maintained a mask of civility and politeness. Clark's REAL feelings though, Capt Clark, scare the shit out of her.
My fellow DFPN creator just released The Chairman’s Inaugural Address for The United States Department of Nerds.
His channel focuses on comic books and interviews with independent comic creators, so if that’s your lane, check it out.
