π¨ββ Exploit found @nockchain, reported, patched, and activated at block 112,500 β all in under 24 hours. Huge credit to @theodorvaryag for the find, @loganallc for the fix and NCC for the coordination, and every node operator who upgraded without a hitch. Speed + precision, no drama. β‘π§π
π¨ @nockchain had a mining exploit today. Zero-padded composition polynomials let an attacker grind cheap PoW hashes and inflate their proof rate. No ZK weakness, no user funds at risk β just unfairly-captured block rewards. π§΅
@bitemyapp found it, built a working PoC overnight, and burned his own hash rate matching the exploit β just to blunt the attacker's payout while the team shipped a fix.
That's Nockchain's actual thesis, proven in miniature: cheap, verifiable proofs create a market anyone can enter β and enter it they did, hard enough to erase a 79% supermajority in a week.
$NOCK isn't asking you to trust the pitch. It's showing you nine days of on-chain receipts.
Not financial advice β DYOR.
July 15: one miner controls 52% of a zero-knowledge proof-of-work network. July 18: that miner is at 79%. A near-supermajority. July 24: he's back down to 17%.
This isn't a story about centralization. It's the opposite β and the receipts are all on-chain. π§΅
Read that arc again: 52% β 79% β 17%, in nine days. An operator who was open about how thin the margins were, competed back down to a level playing field by miners willing to run the same brutal math. No admin key, no committee vote β just proof-of-work working as designed.
