i am working on something BIG.
i just need a final push.
i have spoken with key stakeholders within racing over the past few months and it is time to introduce the 'CHANGE LEADS ACT.'
change leads is simple.
any casino operating in north america that exists because of horse racing (racinos) will be mandated to offer an option for casino gamblers to donate to aftercare when they put their vouchers into cashout machines.
far too many racinos offer NO donation option whatsoever let alone one for aftercare. The program would allow forgotten loose change to be directed towards throroughbred aftercare programs throughout the country.
We are all tired of the aftercare talk.
It is time to act.
CHANGE LEADS is an answer we can ALL get behind.

THE DEMOGRAPHIC TIME BOMB NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT.

I just read the Bloodhorse article “Dollars & Sense: Two Sets of Numbers, Different Stories”.

Everyone keeps debating handle, purses, race dates and year over year statistics.

They’re missing the real story.

Horse racing’s fan base and betting customer are getting older every year. The industry is not replacing them with enough people in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

Our fan base is shrinking.

THAT’S THE WAGERING CRISIS!

At the same time, we’ve built a wagering system that many everyday bettors believe favors sophisticated CAW teams with substantial rebates and technological advantages. If the average fan feels the game isn’t on a level playing field, why would the next generation choose horse racing over the countless other betting options available today?

And where is the leadership?

Where is the national media strategy?

Where is the marketing plan to reach younger audiences?

Where is the social media strategy?

Where is the transparency on CAWs?

Where is the urgency?

This is exactly why horse racing needs an independent commissioner based model, one organization with the authority and responsibility to grow the sport, coordinate a national marketing strategy, modernize wagering, improve transparency, and make attracting new fans and bettors one of the industry’s top priority.

The future of horse racing won’t be determined by today’s handle.

It will be determined by whether there are enough fans and bettors in their 20s, 30s and 40s to replace those we inevitably lose over the next decade.

That’s the number we should all be talking about.
