Did you know...the Black Panthers of the 761st Tank Battalion were the first African American tank squad to see combat in WWII. Leading, serving, and WINNING. #AfricanAmericanHistory
“Battlespace” is a much used term most notable for its absence from current Army and Joint Doctrine. “Area of Operations” is a more appropriate choice that is consistent with current doctrine. Stay current.
What are the logical transitions between the Division Deep and Close (BCT) fights? Does the BCT have a deep fight? We need to do a better job studying our own doctrine...Read FM 3-0.
Commanders must train their staff to operate in a time constrained environment. Abbreviating MDMP doesn’t work when subordinate leaders and the staff don’t know how the commander receives information or how the unit is designed to fight.
@NCFranklin Great story...I don’t think enough people appreciate how important it is to let our young leaders get back on the horse and continue to lead when they make a mistake. Thanks for sharing. Warhorse!
@TheCompanyLDR Good article. We need more junior officers and NCOs who embrace the opportunity to serve in mechanized units. Leaders who talk down ABCT infantry assignments set the conditions for a poorly performing unit. ABCTs must have competent mechanized infantry.
There is no substitute for personal engagement. We should reassess the effectiveness of our online training (not just for sponsorship) to see if it really adds value. Wasteful to spend resources to fix problems that must be addressed by direct leadership.
ADP 6-0 defines six functions common to all command posts. Leaders in all echelons of coordinating staff must assess if their organization can support their commander by conducting all six functions under austere conditions and time constraints.
In a similar vein to the script conversation, one thing I would do during backbriefs was to have a gunner brief their platoon's (or MiC's) role. #miltwitter, what did you do to check for understanding throughout your formations? @FieldGradeLDR @TheCompanyLDR
Doctrinal terms are essential when working with new combined arms teams. Use of non-standard terms can hinder shared understanding and reduce effectiveness.
Maneuver Battalion Commanders drive he Sustainment WfF in the same way they drive the operations process. They must define roles, align talent and establish priorities within their unit.
