Indigenous Veterans Day was founded by the National Aboriginal Veterans Association in the early 1990s to honour the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. For generations, Indigenous veterans have defended this land and contributed to peacekeeping missions, often while facing discrimination at home and limited recognition of their service.
Indigenous Veterans Day is a time to remember their courage and sacrifice, to acknowledge the inequities they endured, and to ensure their contributions are fully recognized within Canada's history.

Today, on the anniversary of his passing and the first day of Secret Path Week, we honour Gord Downie – fearless artist, poetic visionary, and bridge-builder – who used his voice to not only shape the landscape of Canadian music, but to call on all of us to “Do Something” to move reconciliation forward.
In his final years, Gord worked closely with the Wenjack family to create “Secret Path”, sharing Chanie’s story through music, a graphic novel, and film. This year alone, over 9,500 Legacy Schools are engaging with “Secret Path” in classrooms and learning spaces throughout the country.
Gord’s dedication to truth and reconciliation continues to guide the work of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.

At the 10th Annual Invisible Wounds Mental Wellness Conference for First Responders and Clinicians October 6-7, 2025 in Niagara Falls, Canada, Nicolas Stone, the audio video technician for the event for the past few years, was moved to write a song that was played for the delegates, resulting in a standing ovation.
Nic has given Invisible Wounds permission to share this song publicly on our social media channels. We are very grateful to Nic, who has provided the following description of the song:
STILL THEY RUN
This song was written in tribute to all first responders - police, fire fighters, 911 dispatch operators, ER doctors and nurses, military, paramedics, ambulance drivers - any and all those who answer the call.
The purpose of the song is to bring awareness to the silent, invisible wounds that many first responders experience in life because of what they do.
While we all see them as heroes - we never think of what they experience and how it can affect them when the emergency is over!
To all our heroes - this is for you!
