And instead of trying to recruit an ever increasing supply of replacement workers (substitutes), our @nseducation should work on keeping the folks we have in their classrooms by meaningfully improving their working conditions.
Ask them what they need, and give it to them.
Many of these folks in shortage areas work with our most vulnerable students, for EXTREMELY low pay.
We don’t have a labour shortage.
We have a shortage of folks wanting to do difficult work, for low pay, in a system that doesn’t value their labour or their skills/expertise.
Our @nseducation system currently has a shortage of bus drivers, EPAs, substitute teachers, custodians, counsellors, speech-language pathologists and psychologists.
The education system is not attractive to many because it is difficult work, managed without the proper supports.

Either say Black, Indigenous or persons of color OR say the cultural background of the group you are referencing but don’t lump all of them together.
It’s lazy IMO. Take the time to learn the backgrounds of the people you are referencing. 🤷🏾♂️
