With Jaswant Singh Khalra’s legacy in mainstream discourse, we must understand who he was. Driven by human rights & the Sikh Way, he uncovered secret killings across Punjab. Knowing his life was at risk, he returned & was murdered in secret. Let's continue his fight for justice.
BREAKING | The U.S. have charged Hindu & Indian Nationalist gangster Lawrence Bishnoi & his lieutenant Goldy Brar with conducting the 2023 assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a killing that Canadian & American authorities have linked to agents of the Indian government.
The indictment alleges Bishnoi used contraband phones inside an Indian prison to personally direct political assassinations, murders, kidnappings and extortion worldwide. Prosecutors say his organization targeted prominent religious, social and political leaders to terrorize and extort Sikh diaspora communities.
Separately, British and Canadian intelligence reportedly intercepted communications implicating senior Indian officials, including Home Minister Amit Shah, in Nijjar’s assassination.
Thirty seven defendants were charged across three indictments. Twenty four people were arrested across the U.S., Canada and Europe, while ten remain fugitives. The charges remain allegations, and India has denied involvement.

Most Sikhs are NOT Indians
They are Punjabi, and their Sikh homeland was destroyed by the British Empire. The historic Sikh Empire (1799–1849) spanned roughly 520,000 km², an area comparable to modern-day France.
After the World War 2, many “nations” got divided: Punjab, Germany, Korea
Punjab became Charda and Lehnda (east and west), Germany became East and West, and Korea became North and South.
Germany got unified, but I don’t see Punjab or Korea will ever get united again.
When you visit DMZ (I visited last year), you see and read same stories what happened during the partition in 1947. Families thought that they would come back to their homes, got separated and never got united again.
If people are telling Sikhs to go back, where?
Their homeland was destroyed by the British Empire, and they were recruited to the army to fight THEIR World War.
WW1-2 were not Sikh wars, BUT Sikhs still spilled their blood for them.
What are they getting in exchange?
Racism from the kids, whose parents were saved by Sikh Soldiers.
It’s time for Sikhs to stop justifying their rights.
They could even wear a Turban with a print of UK 🇬🇧 or Canada 🇨🇦 flag, their kids will never be accepted by many in those countries.
As co-chair of the American Sikh Congressional Caucus, I was proud to join the American Sikh Caucus Committee to reflect on the tragedy of 1984. One of America's founding pillars is the belief that every person is granted the freedom to practice their chosen faith without fear, but unfortunately, Sikhs continue to face harassment, discrimination, persecution, and violence.
Leaders at every level of government have a responsibility to condemn transnational repression, and I remain committed to continuing to protect the rights and dignity of Sikh-Americans in the Central Valley and across the nation.
BREAKING | MLA Mandeep Dhaliwal has introduced a motion in the BC Legislature recognizing the violence against Sikhs across India in 1984 as a genocide.
The motion also recognizes the importance of education, remembrance, & confronting Anti-Sikh hate.
