Under his leadership, NSF established the U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (NSF TIP) to enhance U.S. competitiveness in the global market. NSF TIP accelerates the translation and development of breakthrough technologies, fosters innovation and economic growth, and prepares the American workforce for better-quality, higher-wage jobs.

Dr. Panchanathan was inducted as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors in 2013. He has been a dedicated advocate for innovation and scientific advancement throughout his career and helped establish the NAI Senior Member Program.
