GTA 6 - GAME INFORMER MAGAZINE PREVIEW - (New Details & Weather & Map)

The Game Informer preview published in late September 2026 shows that GTA 6 takes the series to a whole new level in both technical aspects and gameplay. Specifically, the new details leaked from the state of Leonida focus on free-roam and atmospheric mechanics.

🗺️ Map and World Design
Massive Scale: It has been confirmed that the new map is exactly twice the size of GTA 5. The world doesn't just expand horizontally; it is much denser, more interactive, and features far more accessible interiors compared to the past.

6 Main Regions: There are a total of 6 distinct main regions, including Vice City and the Leonida Keys. By placing impoverished neighborhoods right next to ultra-wealthy areas, a much sharper socio-economic contrast has been created.

Vibrant Diversity: Over 170 animal species have been added to the world (with features like bioluminescence in marine life). The NPCs you encounter show incredible physical diversity, down to height, weight, body type, sunburns, and skin blemishes.

⛈️️ Weather and Atmosphere
Regional and Lasting Effects: Weather no longer affects the entire map at once; it operates entirely regionally. It can be pouring rain on one end of the map while the sun shines on another street. Puddles remain after the rain stops, and rainbows can form at the right lighting angles.

Advanced Wind Physics: Wind can be blocked by buildings, change direction, or create updrafts. Characters' hair, ripples on the water surface, and trash lying around react physically to the wind's intensity. Especially for the long-form walkthrough series you record in 2K 60FPS or your 1-hour rain and storm ambient videos, these dynamic environmental details will add tremendous depth.

Hurricanes: Tropical storms and hurricanes severe enough to directly impact gameplay have been included. Even animals' fur reacts to the climate, getting wet and muddy.

🚔 New Info and Gameplay Mechanics
The "Heat" System: The classic 6-star wanted level is returning. However, the police are now much smarter; they can recognize you by your physical appearance, clothing, and your last known location at the crime scene. Changing your appearance and clothes will be critical to successfully losing them once they are on your tail.

Fast Travel with RydeMe: Due to the map's sheer size, a ride-sharing app called RydeMe has been added. This system isn't just a flat loading screen; when you get in the car, you can chat with other passengers, listen to new licensed tracks, and browse the in-game social media during the trip.

Vehicle Theft Difficulty: The days of smashing a window and driving off instantly are over. Different vehicles have different security systems, so stealing a car will take time, and you'll need to calculate the risks carefully.

Jason and Lucia's Dynamic: The relationship between the duo strengthens based on your actions. Going into heists quietly and planned, or going in guns blazing, can affect this dynamic. Aside from the story, the pair can engage in many activities together, such as scuba diving, canoeing, jet skiing, mini-golf, and billiards. When your GTA 6 streams begin, there's a massive playground to experience these activities with your viewers outside of the main story.
