Introducing… the Peebles Hoard 🥁 ✨

It’s a spectacular collection of bronze, leather and wooden material dating to the Late Bronze Age (c.1000-800 BCE).

Many of these objects have never been found before in Scotland.

So, as you can imagine, we’re *pretty* excited

We're back up and running! The National Museum of Scotland is open as normal.

Unfortunately, due to a system outage, there is currently limited access to the National Museum of Scotland.

The Grand Gallery, Balcony Cafe, The Kitchen Restaurant and shop are open, however, other parts of the museum are currently closed.

Due to the red weather warning, all our museums will be closed on Friday 24 January. Events scheduled for Friday 24 January are cancelled and ticketholders will be notified. We plan to reopen on Saturday 25 January as usual.

The Peebles Hoard contains many unique and unusual objects, which is great fun because it means that our curators can come up with temporary nicknames for them, like the iconic round ‘doughnuts’ 🍩
