If look closely, the Spurs have been dominant the 1st Quarters of these games. The Knicks have beat or matched them every other quarter!

2026 NBA Finals through Game 4:

The Knicks lead the series 3–1, but the quarter-by-quarter numbers are fascinating.

Total quarters won:
Knicks: 8
Spurs: 8

So NYK has the series lead, but the quarters themselves are dead even.

The difference is WHEN each team is winning them.

1st quarters:
Spurs 4–0
Total margin: Spurs +47

That is the clearest trend of the series. San Antonio has owned the opening quarter every game.

Game 1: Spurs +8
Game 2: Spurs +9
Game 3: Spurs +11
Game 4: Spurs +19

The Knicks have not won a single 1st quarter.

2nd quarters:
Knicks 3–1
Knicks won-quarter margin: +32

NYK has repeatedly answered after slow starts. Their best 2nd quarter came in Game 3, when they beat the Spurs 42–24 in the quarter.

3rd quarters:
Knicks 3–1
Knicks won-quarter margin: +24

The Knicks have also been strong after halftime, winning the 3rd quarter in Games 1, 2, and 4.

4th quarters:
Split 2–2

Knicks won-quarter margin: +26
Spurs won-quarter margin: +11

This is where the series has tilted toward NYK. Even though the 4th quarters are tied 2–2, the Knicks have done more damage when they win them.

Most important stat:

That leaves NYK +8 overall through 4 games, which matches the actual series scoring margin.

Bottom line:

The Spurs are starting games better.
The Knicks are adjusting better.
San Antonio has dominated 1st quarters.
