#SustainableLandUseUg
Thank you @faithchuna1 for honoring our invite, you left us with a lot to think about in terms of sustainable land practices in this era of technology.
I was honored to give a key note address to these delegates from the greater north (Uganda), on the matter of accelerating sustainable land use practices in the wake of technological advancement. Thx to GIZ @NULP_UG , @OxfaminUganda et al for making this conversation possible.
As employ technology in land use, it's important to interrogate its downsides and collectively draw actions to mitigate the challenges especially in this tech era.
We would like to thank our partners @OxfaminUganda, @giz_uganda,@ESAFFUG & @UCOBAC_ for the financial support that enabled this meeting. And for those who made it to Moroto we are grateful for your participation.๐๐
โSupport certificate of customary land. Converting to free hold system means we loose a lot of values, therefore we need to maintain our customary land systemโ
Bethel from @landnetug presenting on โExploring Technologyโs Role in Achieving Sustainable Land Use in Uganda: Customary Land Registration as a Case Studyโ
โin ensuring sustainable land use, we need to have land properly documented so that when investors come we are able to negotiateโ Andrew Byaruhanga ED @RRightsAfrica
โAs we talk about sustainable land use practices we need to keep it at the back of our minds that climate change is realโ Andrew Byaruhanga ED @RRightsAfrica
She also gave the negative side to technology in land use
๐technology has increased the gap between the elite and illiterate making it easy for elites to grab land & take advantage of the illiterate
๐it has made youth lazy, they spend most of their time on phones
@faithchuna1 notes that Technology in land is necessary because:
๐ it increases linkages to market land and makes it easier for people to meaningfully exchange land.
๐it makes it easier for us to communicate especially with those who have been victims of land fraud.
There are three things which will always cause conflict:
1๏ธโฃ Cattle
2๏ธโฃ Land
3๏ธโฃ Power
Therefore when we prepare for these , then we will be able to avoid conflict as a result of land. @faithchuna1
