Nooksack Elementary students are using the school’s salmon tank—every November the tank becomes a home to raise salmon eggs—to grow mushrooms before converting it into a place for the salmon, turning the site into a year-round site for science.

Everson Elementary students have been helping raise salmon in a school aquarium this school year. The students ventured to the Nooksack River on Friday to release the salmon.
Everson Elementary fifth graders planned and ran a food drive at the school for the month of February. The student’s had a goal of 1,000 items and ended up spearheading an effort that brought in 1,268 items.
Congrats to NV High winter sports. At the 1A state wresting tourney, Wyatt Bacon earned third and Mina Azzam fourth. NV boys basketball had a successful districts. NV girls basketball returns to state in Yakima this week, playing in a Round-of-12 game on Wednesday at 2pm.

Last week Nooksack Valley High School hosted a career day with 39 different sessions and over 50 community presenters volunteering time to share with NVHS students. The teaching and support of the community volunteers offered a fresh perspective on careers to the students.
Nooksack Valley Schools will run two hours late on Tuesday, Feb. 4. AM and PM preschools are canceled. The district will reassess road conditions in the morning and confirm the delay by 6 a.m. and communicating any additional changes to bus routes via Parent Square.
Everson Elementary third-grade teacher Eli Davis spends Thursday afternoons helping at a chess club at the Nooksack Indian Tribe’s Timber Ridge Center. Davis helps build connections between Everson Elementary and the students at staff at Timber Ridge.
Congrats to NVHS student Jacqueline Rodriguez-Mendoza on being named a 2024 Washington STEM Rising Star Award winner. Jacqueline uses STEM in exciting ways to support both her education and community.

Second graders at Everson Elementary took a field trip to Silver Lake Park. The students hiked, observed plants and even enjoyed s’mores. For many of the students this was the first time at the park, on a hike or even tasking s’mores.
