11:45 a.m. Radar: Virga and light showers have popped up over parts of the region late this morning. Much of this rainfall might not be reaching the ground so a quick sprinkle might be the most seen from this activity. #azwx
The low temperature this Saturday morning at Sky Harbor Airport was 63°F, 1 degree above normal for this date. Middle 50s to lower 60s were common across the metro. #azwx
A small low pressure circulation over Yuma early this morning, is part of a broader low, and will swing through AZ today. This low will help drive showers and storms this afternoon in northern AZ and may even generate a few showers and a storm in the lower deserts. #azwx
Afternoon high temperatures were several degrees below average with readings right around the 80 degree mark. Expect very similar temperatures on Saturday. #azwx#cawx
Looking ahead through the next 7 days, the weather will be seasonal and dry. Temperatures will be below normal through this weekend before warming to around normal by early next week. There will be slight chances for rain Saturday, but mainly in AZ high terrain. #azwx#cawx
TBSS is a radar artifact that extends down radial from the storm core, away from the radar, and indicates the presence of large hail. The spike shows up blue in the correlation coefficient (CC) radar image on the right.
Two supercell storms tracked through the Phoenix Metro area on the 20th and 21st. The 1st storm passed over the east valley. Radar estimated max hail sizes were 1"-1.5" (first image). The 2nd storm impacted the west valley with a larger hail swath up to 2"+ (second image). #azwx
One of the hardest hit areas by Wednesday's hail storm was the Metrocenter area along I-17. This radar snapshot is when the core of the storm was directly over the area. The spike feature you see extending out of the storm is an artifact called a Three-Body Scatter Spike (TBSS).
High temperatures were near to below normal across the region today. Much cooler temperatures are in store for the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 70s across the lower deserts. #azwx
