Today my bill Local 99 requiring NYC to produce 150 MW of solar energy by 2035 goes into effect! I celebrated this morning with students from solar-ready PS19, @ClimateJobsNY, & @NYClimateWorks! Green union jobs are critical to our climate goals and the needs of working families.
Today @NYCCouncil unanimously voted to pass my bill Intro 353 requiring NYC to install, maintain, & operate 100 MW of solar capacity on public sites by 2030 & 150 MW by 2035.
This bill will help us meet our climate goals while creating green union jobs! #ClimateWeekNYC
.@CMSandyNurse's solar bill would pave a path for sustainable, clean energy and green, family-sustaining careers for New Yorkers. Let's get it passed!☀️
Join us TOMORROW, Thursday at 10:30 at City Hall Steps to rally for public solar in NYC!
This #ClimateWeek, we are voting on my bill that will require NYC to install 150 megawatts of public solar energy on public properties by 2035, with 100 megawatts by 2030.
⚡️🔌 Join us tomorrow at 10:30 for a rally ahead of the vote on the steps of City Hall!
The kids want #GreenHealthySchools!
We joined Street Work Earth, a climate and arts festival, where community members from Jackson Heights, Queens filled out 50+ postcards calling for investments in green jobs and clean air in our schools!
In New York City, over two-thirds of dirty emissions come from buildings.
This is a great step forward to ensure our government has the proper resources to cut those emissions and enforce Local Law 97.
Staffing for NYC's Dirty Buildings law, Local Law 97, has been a concern for years.
We can't decarbonize if we don't have the staffing to enforce the law.
This is the right step forward to ensure we have a pathway toward a cleaner, healthier NYC.

As NYC students, teachers, and workers go back to school today, we are reminded that climate justice in our schools is a matter of public health.
It’s time for the City prioritize #GreenHealthySchools, and chart a path toward a healthy and sustainable New York for all.
NYSED must support initiatives like Leading the Charge in school districts across the state to ensure that they are implemented in accordance with Climate Act mandates. 5/5
NYC can and should set its ambitions higher to fulfill the promise of the Climate Act; if the city made its school district net-zero by 2030, it could reduce emissions by the equivalent of over 713,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide. 4/
Unfortunately, this program has been delayed; funding has only been allocated to electrify 33 schools of the promised 100,96 and only nine schools have been
selected for retrofits. 3/
In 2022, NYC launched the Leading the Charge Initiative — a $4 billion plan to electrify 100 existing schools by 2030 and to ensure newly constructed schools are fully electric.
If implemented, this program would achieve a 120,000
ton reduction in GHG emissions annually. 2/
