Food bank usage has reached record highs in ONT amid a cost-of-living crisis. Thank you to representatives of North York Harvest, Feed Ontario & Trenton Care & Share Food Bank for meeting with me to discuss how stronger employment support programs can tackle this growing issue.
What do we do now that Bill 60 is taking effect? Do we go back to accepting neglectful landlords & endless rent increases?

#ICYMI In addition to the amazing success of our Lenten Food Drive last month, Gr. 12 religion classes also helped sort 16,982 lb of food over two days at the North York Harvest Food Bank!

A big thank you to our entire school community for helping to collect 1,200 lb of food for our Lenten Food Drive! Donations filled an entire school van, which was then delivered to the North York Harvest Food Bank last week.

Great to meet with Ryan Noble, Executive Director of North York Harvest Food Bank. An organization that plays a vital role in our community.
Our government is taking action to tackle rising costs and food insecurity through the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit and by advancing Canada’s National Food Security Strategy to strengthen domestic food production and supply chains.
Thank you to Ryan and the North York Harvest team for everything they do.

The cost of food is hurting communities & straining non-profits providing vital meals for food-insecure people. Our social enterprise FoodReach is lowering food costs while protecting the non-profit supply chain against disruptions like tariffs. See how👇https://t.co/St12mCJdUW
Canada’s food prices are rising faster than in other major economies, prompting some experts to describe the country as the “food inflation capital of the G7.”

1/3 Toronto food bank clients surveyed for our Who's Hungry Report listed ODSP/OW as their income source. These supports are falling far short of what is needed to ensure our community members can afford even the basic necessities. Learn More https://t.co/iVGIIi2oFg
OW rates have been $733/month max. since 2018, even as the price of housing & food has skyrocketed. When a recipient finds employment, clawbacks begin after they earn $200, a limit that punishes people for trying to re-enter the workforce while keeping them below the poverty line
As of July 2025 more than 30,000 ppl on #OW & #ODSP were #homeless
New data received through a FOI request proves that the very programs designed to provide a safety net are instead forcing thousands of people onto the street

North York Harvest attended the Ontario government's pre-budget consultations on Friday, where we called for increasing OW and the earned income exemption, so the program can actually help community members get back on their feet, not trap them in poverty.
