How was your first day of school, New York? Mine started at Mamá Tingó Child Care Center in Washington Heights and ended at the Bronx School of Hip Hop. I joined a special education class in Queens, read to a 3rd grade class in Brooklyn, and was blown away by the nursing students at Curtis High School on Staten Island.

I hope this school year is as magical for you as today was for me. Thank you, New York.

Today, a new executive order is trying to reshape childhood vaccine guidance, including separating the MMR vaccine and requiring more appointments without evidence of greater safety.

Parents deserve transparency, but vaccine policy must follow evidence, not executive power.

Remember — you can go to the school-based health center in your school for vaccinations! As Dr. Kjolhede notes, this year’s flu season has been particularly bad, and it’s not too late to get the flu shot.
