This is truly horrid. My heart goes out to Pennsylvanians and Ohioans. I have read that children and animals are falling sick. That EPA told residents air & water is safe.
I wouldn't trust them. Remember Flint. Remember Christie Todd Whitman during WTC 9/11. https://t.co/qyQNbUTPVw
The school staffing plan created by the teachers union and City Hall this summer - one that many educators have described as unworkable - has prevented many students with disabilities from receiving their full services, according to this report: https://t.co/kUYMR0gnEH
@daniela127 Agreed. Though parenting is inherently powerful, for better or for worse. In our case, the power was in the collective voices and the singleminded will to lend them to the most important cause of all- all of our children's future. #keepNYCschoolsopen
@daniela127 I think we should OWN the term "powerful parents" and redefine the term "power," (already have). Power=raising our voices in endless dedication to children and the city we live in. Power = Tikkun Olam (heal the world). We own it and will never, relinquish.
BdB says the city is planning to keep the school system open until there's a vaccine, and would instead close individual schools when there are cases. He confirmed that parents won't be able to opt back in until there's a vaccine. This is probably our school system for months
@lfeatherz @elizashapiro@MOREcaucusUFT We're a grassroots movement advocating for ALL of our kids today and future. We must prioritize in-person learning over in-person dining (what a concept!). Raising awareness of risks from overuse of technology and absolute need for human connection in education is radical, right?
@ajagbeadewole @elizashapiro@nytimes False- it has been proven over and over again, In England/Germany/across W Europe, where cases spike, yet schools are shown to be safe and remain open. Extraordinary measures (inc weekly testing) will continue to be taken. Schools are safe #Keepnycschoolsopen
Breaking: NYC will reopen its elementary schools + classrooms for some kids w/ disabilities next week. No reopening date for middle and high school.
No more 3% threshold to close - in fact, no threshold at all.

This is an epic fail @NYCMayor@NYGovCuomo - You DON'T need a "Re-opening" Plan you need a "Stay Open" Plan. You closed schools arbitrarily, the kids are the losers. Schools are safe Schools are essential School Closures are a public health hazard! #KeepNYCSchoolsOpen
No school reopening plan from BdB today, but City Hall will release a plan next week. Reopening will happen in stages, youngest kids and kids with disabilities first. It's basically the city's second shot at reopening.
PRESS CONFERENCE TMW: Weds 11/25 9:00AM @ Gracie Mansion. @NYCMayor promised us a plan by Wednesday to get our kids back in schools that never should have closed in the first place. It's Wednesday. We need our kids back in school Monday. We are 15,000 strong and we're still here.

Today, if your kids go to private or parochial school, they are in school. If your kids are in public you're SOL because @NYCMayor and @DOEChancellor so focused on equity have, to dismay of own public health experts have sold us out to the UFT. #KeepNYCSchoolsOpen@elizashapiro
