I have a lot of respect for @HazimNoelia and all the work she does for the Dominican Republic, but this comment, especially coming from a secular, atheist perspective, is exactly the kind of thinking that’s contributing to the decline of societies built on Christian values.

All secularists tend to push the same idea: “we should all love and respect one another,” and that religion shouldn’t have any role in society. But let me be clear, this mindset only exists in Christian nations that are far more tolerant of your beliefs than most other systems of government.

You say there should be a separation of church and state? Fine. But then why are so many of your laws rooted in values that came from the church? Where do your beliefs come from? How do you define right and wrong? And based on what standard?

These are questions the church has been answering for thousands of years. We have history to look back on whenever a society tries to move away from that foundation. And what do those societies often turn into? Places like Cuba, where God is replaced by government, and it eventually leads to authoritarian regimes.

The reality is, secularists can only speak as freely as you do in societies shaped by Christian values. That’s the reason you’re even able to have and express your opinions without fear. Those freedoms didn’t come out of nowhere.

A society that builds its laws purely on secular or atheist ideas will eventually fall into the same cycle we’ve seen throughout history: government overreach, corruption, slavery, and oppression. Laws created by flawed humans will always be flawed. But Christianity, specifically the teachings of Jesus Christ, has been the foundation for some of the most stable and prosperous nations in all of human history.

You’re speaking from a place of privilege that was built on those values, the same system that allows you to openly criticize religion without consequences.

And this is where secularism becomes dangerous. When a society removes any higher moral authority and replaces it with human judgment alone, morality becomes subjective. What’s right today can be wrong tomorrow depending on who’s in power. Without a fixed standard, laws stop being about truth and start being about control. Power shifts, values shift, and eventually, the government becomes the final authority on morality.

That’s when things start to break down. Because if the state defines right and wrong, then anything can be justified: censorship, oppression, even harm, as long as those in power believe it’s “for the greater good.” History has shown that over and over again.

At that point, it’s not freedom anymore, it’s control. And once a society reaches that stage, decline isn’t a possibility; it’s inevitable.
