@msdwrites@Suitandtie9999 Yeah, poverty has barely moved in Bangladesh.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

@msdwrites@Suitandtie9999 The observable facts are that Bangladesh has moved from one of the poorest countries in the world to a middle income country off the back of textiles. Cambodia and Vietnam have seen this and decided that they wish to do the same.
@msdwrites@Suitandtie9999 Iโm not ignoring it. I wonโt buy products I know are made in China unless I know I can trust the manufacturer/seller.
But Bangladeshi / Vietnamese sweat shops - you would struggle to find a better path to prosperity historically.
@msdwrites@Suitandtie9999 No idea where the ACT one is made, but hopefully in some developing nation where increased trade and business will continue to help the people grow out of poverty.
@jetgalnz@Maddyson2021 I would advise against this. My wife had her routine mammogram at the beginning of April: 2 tumours found, mastectomy performed and now about to start chemo. No symptoms, no lumps, no signs - found through a routine scan.
@SlimPeregrine@BBCWorld What does it have to do with China whether or not they visit a neighbouring country? China doesnโt control Taiwan and never has.
@ParkerRowNZ@SimonCourtACT As it is, Taiwan is a totally independent country under the Montevideo definitions:
It controls its territory
It has a settled population
It has a Government
It is able to enter into relations with other States.
Taiwan is a country and our MPs have every right to visit.
@ParkerRowNZ@SimonCourtACT No. New Zealand acknowledges that China claims Taiwan. We donโt officially agree with it, and it doesnโt make it right - it is just that we acknowledge that is something that they do.
@barry_john35199@KokilaP96033033@aniobrien It isnโt me saying we should put it in place. Iโm an ACT voter and of the opinion the fewer and lower taxes the better. It just isnโt actually a bad tax in itself compared to other options (if done properly). No one is yet advocating doing it properly though.
@barry_john35199@KokilaP96033033@aniobrien This is why LVT can have positive externalities as it moves assets to where they are more valued economically.
It is the politicians who then deal with the emotional aspect (eg maybe allowing LVT to be deferred, as with some Council Rates).
@barry_john35199@KokilaP96033033@aniobrien Economists just say what is generally sensible but without taking emotion into account.
Taking the reverse mortgage into account this isnโt what they would say if you are asset rich & cash poor - it would be to downsize, thus freeing up bigger houses for families.
@barry_john35199@KokilaP96033033@aniobrien Land value tax is something many economists recommend as it is one of the few taxes that can have positive externalities (people shift land use to more productive measures).
The offset though is to reduce more destructive taxes - not give everyone free money!
@libertyscott@MHReddell Nah. It is because if a Singaporean is going to the Hutt then they want to fly to Ashley Bloomfield (Hutt City) International Airport not Wellington.
So make the Hutt part of Wellington and then they wonโt know better!
@JordNZ@Suitandtie9999 FYI is (or can be) anonymous anyway. Just make up any name and send it from there. So there is nothing to say that James is even a James, let alone that James. Even then, James isnโt exactly the rarest of names!
