I published this behind the @NewsroomNZ paywall yesterday, but it's stirred up a lot of interest so I'm making it widely available. @TenbyPowell, who quit as Tauranga mayor last month, tells me it's right to relieve councils of responsibility for waters. https://t.co/q0NAqNgW1B
Now the special votes have been finalised, I’d like to congratulate, Māori Party co-Leader, @Waiariki_Cowboy who has won the Waiariki electorate. I’d also like to congratulate Tamati Coffey who returns to Parliament as a Labour list MP.

Dear Cancer . . . Thank you for making me stop, listen and remember what’s truly important. You can go now! My message to all men over 55 is, ‘Get Checked; Not Decked’. https://t.co/yrhCt4aN84
LIVING UP TO THE PROMISE TO GET THINGS DONE: Since taking up the reins as Mayor, and in the lead-up to the local government election, I promised to led #Tauranga city forward progressively and get things done. Here’s an overview of the year . . . https://t.co/qPoXrtdUTw
This is #NewZealand’s housing crisis.
Soaring land & property prices, plummeting home ownership and rampant homelessness - and a dire shortage of social housing. #Tauranga is not going to see a reduction in house prices until supply matches demand.

In time, #Tauranga central will be one of New Zealand’s most desirable residential surburbs. Easy living and a stunning vista. We just need to think differently about it - like creating an inner city park as its heart where people can gather together. https://t.co/95LxONK6m1
Yesterday I visited the @Portoftauranga & met the @BOPDHB COVID-19 testing team.
Great colab everyone - 744 high priority port workers tested. Txs also to the Tauranga PathLab team who processed hundreds of tests this week. Thanks for keeping the community of Tauranga Moana safe
@TgaCouncil votes to establish a Māori ward and with Tauranga’s iwi population rapidly approaching 20% of the total population, I believe they need a voice at the council table and to be included in decision-making processes.

The Smart Growth Partnership shows what can be achieved in a short time. Today we have better relationships with central govt, our sister councils, iwi & special interest groups than ever - this collaboration is about to pay big dividends for #Tauranga.

The announcement about funding for Cameron Road allows us to undertake major improvements on this major corridor, at no cost to ratepayers.

#TasteTauranga starts on 14 August highlighting how much we have on offer and with a high caliber of dining in our city that rivals many. Check out the showcase video below and please share widely. Thanks! https://t.co/SZdU4XEAHN #kotahitanga#taurangatogether
I wanted to experience #Tauranga’s traffic from a truckies perspective and talk to a professional driver about the challenges of driving in New Zealand’s fastest growing city on roads that aren’t coping with increased traffic volumes. #kotahitanga#taurangatogether
The Age of Fast-Hate and Why I Won’t be Sitting in the Corner, Rocking, with my Thumb in my Mouth. This seems to be the topic du jour so I thought I’d add a local government perspective. To read more - please click on the link below.

I’m pleased to have the opportunity to work more closely with Mayor @Paula4Hamilton (Paula Southgate) to ensure we are collaborating on infrastructure planning between Hamilton and the Port of Tauranga (PoT). #kotahitanga#taurangatogether

Working together with our regional partners will become increasingly important for #Tauranga. Today we have better relationships with the Western Bay District Council & the BOP Regional Council than we’ve had for some time. This now extends to #Hamiton.

Level 1 distancing with PM @jacindaardern & WBOP regional leaders who met today to discuss infrastructure funding for a range of projects. It’s heartening to see this level of collaboration at a time when we need immediate fiscal stimulus.

We need to think differently. It’s time to get the strategic development of #SMEs, and it’s impact on regional economic development, out of MBIE and into the private sector. One thing is for sure - post Covid-19, we need to think differently.https://t.co/8ukkWlRf1r
@colleenmaria Colleen - It breaks my heart to read stories like this. I moved back to my hometown, Tauranga, a year ago and I have been saddened by the racism here. As Martin Luther King said, “there comes as time when silence is betrayal”. We all need to have the courage stand up against it.
