Speaking at the Caribbean Week of Agriculture in Saint Kitts and Nevis, High Commissioner Te Puni, and colleagues from the New Zealand Bioeconomy Science Institute, showcased a New Zealand-funded initiative that transforms sargassum seaweed into a sustainable bio-stimulant.

New Zealand remembers the late Honourable Vaughn Miller, Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources and offers sincere condolences on his passing. High Commissioner Te Puni was honoured to meet the minister last week. Thoughts go to Minister Vaughn’s family and friends.

On #WorldHumanitarianDay, New Zealand 🇳🇿 acknowledges the dedication and courage of humanitarian personnel serving those in need.

Their work saves lives, upholds dignity, and alleviates the suffering of people in times of emergency. Their work is not controversial, but the safety of humanitarians is increasingly under threat – 373 aid workers were killed in 2024, the largest number in any single year.

New Zealand stands firmly for international humanitarian law, under which the protection of humanitarian & healthcare workers is a requirement. Violence against humanitarians must stop.

In the last year, we have supported Pacific responses in Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea, and also humanitarian responses in Ethiopia, Gaza, the Philippines, Myanmar, Sudan, Ukraine, Viet Nam, and Yemen, among others.

With support from the High Commission, the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at @uniofguyana presented its research findings to the Caribbean Agro-Economic Society’s (CAES) 35th West Indies Agricultural Economics Conference.
