@HRI_Conference Presentation: 2025-03-05, 16:14 AEDT - 16:24 AEDT
Location: Goldfields Theatre
The work was led by @Lesong_Jia in collaboration with Breelyn Kane Styler and supported by the U.S. Department of Veterans. A special shoutout to @EsterwoodConnor for presenting the paper!
Our @HRI_Conference Paper, “More Than Automation: User Insights into the Functionality and Interface of Wheelchair-Mounted Robotic Arms” shows findings from interviews with 13 users with upper limb impairments using a custom-developed prototype system. https://t.co/iaKtI3IQeX
2. How will human-driven vehicles interact with automated vehicles in mixed-traffic environments? We revealed drivers' behaviors in game-theoretical scenarios using a driving simulator study.

Excited to present our two work-in-progress papers at the #AutoUI2024 conference.
@AutomotiveUI
1. Who should drive when both the human and automated vehicle are (or aren't) confident in certain scenarios? We explored this through confidence and trust. https://t.co/E1V9tn1MWX
The dataset is from our recently published paper in Transportation Research Part F. Here is the paper link: https://t.co/tpTqlwiHBU Our focus is on driver SA of critical but easily overlooked objects in conditionally automated vehicles.
How can we predict if the driver has situational awareness (SA) of a vehicle in the blind spot during takeover? @Lesong_Jia will present our work on predicting driver SA via a multimodal ML approach in Session ST5, Tue, Sept 10, 4:15-5:15pm @HFES Annual Meeting. Come and join us!
We invite children aged 11-18 and their parents to collaborate in designing the future of school buses! If you're interested in participating, please sign up through the provided link. https://t.co/2RWtR5YQ4Y
🚌 Call for Participants:
Do you want to ride a school bus that you designed? We are looking for children and their guardians to share their school bus experiences. Participants will receive $15 for every 30 minutes.

#CHI2024 Join us on May 15th at 3pm in Room 317 for Yaohan Ding and @Lesong_Jia's work on criticality-adaptive display design in highly automated vehicles. @ISPPitt@PittDINS @SciPitt https://t.co/RReX8cRWZw https://t.co/nAZk0W2Vyl
We integrate uncertainty into AV decision-making using an evidential deep learning paradigm and explore advanced training strategies guided by uncertainty. Our model surpasses existing baselines across diverse scenarios. The work is in collaboration with Yue Wan and Xiaowei Jia.
#HRI2024 Shihong Ling @shl282 will present our paper "Improving Explainable Object-induced Model through Uncertainty for Automated Vehicles" on Wed at 14:05 in Session 2.C: XAI and AVs @HRI_Conference. Paper link: https://t.co/GiKTX3uCAI
More transparent information is not always better! AI-Generated visual explanations improve task performance when confidence is NOT displayed in human–automation interaction. Read more in our recent Human Factors Paper: https://t.co/7733CfvGjQ
Huge thanks to co-authors @EdmondAwad@mrfrank5790 Peng Liu, colleagues, ACs, and reviewers for their valuable feedback! See you in Honolulu! @PittDINS @SciPitt @ISPPitt
We have two papers conditionally accepted to #CHI2024 🥳 One studied human-machine cooperation in game-theoretical driving scenarios and the other designed criticality-adaptive displays in highly automated vehicles. Congrats to my PhD students @yutong2191 Yaohan Ding @Lesong_Jia
I attended my first #HFES meeting in 2016, in Washington, D.C. Now, it's a special occasion as it's my students' first HFES meeting, once again in D.C. We are excited to present our four papers and reunite with friends. @HFES @SciPitt @PittDINS@ISPPitt
Three SCI faculty members have been awarded @PittCyber Accelerator Grants in Fall 2023! Congrats to Assistant Professors Na Du (@Na_Du__) and Morgan Frank (@mrfrank5790), and Associate Professor Balaji Palanisamy! Learn more: https://t.co/DvjxBPd7hJ
