🚨 So Nigel Farage hopes to win a by election in Clacton and escape scrutiny.

Apparently the standards investigation does not automatically die. According to paragraph 40 of the Procedural Protocol to the MPs’ Code of Conduct:

• The investigation would be suspended while he is no longer an MP.
• If he wins the by-election and returns to Parliament, the investigation resumes.
• Even if he loses, it could still be resumed.
• The by-election result might influence any eventual sanction or rectification.

This means a “chicken run” is not a clean escape. The donor scrutiny (Harborne £5m + Cottrell benefits) could still hang over him if he returns.
