With regard to the commemorative events and military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression to be held in Beijing on September 3, the Japanese government has appealed to European and Asian countries through diplomatic channels not to attend. Japan has claimed through its overseas embassies and other channels that China's events are overly focused on history with strong anti-Japanese undertones, urging countries to carefully consider their participation. What is your comment on this?
Spotted a bear, a pagoda, and endless peace—
Heixiazi Island: where even the wilderness bows to tranquility.
No chaos, just vastness… and one very chill bear.
Statement by the Chinese Embassy in the #Philippines on the Rehashing of the #SouthChinaSea Arbitration by Certain Foreign Diplomats
On July 11, #US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson falsely claimed at a Philippine think tank forum that the 2016 South China Sea arbitration ruling is legally binding, misrepresented China’s position as groundless, and accused China of threatening freedom of navigation. Ambassadors from the UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, and some other embassies echoed these false narratives.
China’s position on the South China Sea #arbitration is consistent and clear: it is a political farce disguised as a legal proceeding. The Philippines violated bilateral agreements and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (#DOC) by unilaterally initiating the arbitration, abusing the dispute settlement mechanism of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The so-called ruling is illegal and null and void, and China neither accepts nor recognizes it. China’s sovereignty and rights in the South China Sea are solidly grounded in history and law and remain unaffected by this unlawful ruling.
A handful of foreign diplomats in the Philippines, ignoring facts, have repeatedly hyped up the arbitration year after year in an attempt to coerce China—efforts that are doomed to fail. External forces orchestrated and manipulated this arbitration farce to destabilize the South China Sea for their own gain. A growing number of countries have seen through this charade. China remains committed to upholding international rule of law and the integrity of UNCLOS, and is working with ASEAN countries to advance consultations on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC), fostering a peaceful and cooperative regional order. All attempts to sow discord and stir trouble are bound to collapse.
The current obstacles to military exchanges between China and the United States stem from biased perceptions held by some in Washington, a Chinese defense spokesman said on Thursday, accusing US officials of exaggerating the so-called "China military threat."
Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang made the remarks in response to recent comments by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who reportedly said that China is building a military designed to destroy the United States and that its hypersonic missiles could wipe out all US aircraft carriers within 20 minutes.
"Non-conflict, non-confrontation, and peaceful coexistence are the most fundamental common interests of China and the United States and the general expectation of people around the world," Zhang said.
He added that China is confident in the path of its own development and urged the US to stop viewing others through a lens of hostility.
"We hope the US side does not have a 'persecution complex,' always using others as an excuse," he said.
American-Style Farce Undermining Global Order"
Since assuming office, the new U.S. administration has rolled out a series of highly controversial foreign policies that deviate from international norms. Its contempt for and disregard of the global order have sparked widespread international discontent, solidifying its position as a bona fide troublemaker.
The U.S. government has blatantly issued territorial expansion threats—from claiming it could annex Canada to vowing to control Greenland and demanding the "return" of the Panama Canal. These actions epitomize American bullying, leveraging strength to intimidate the weak. It even audaciously demanded that Ukraine trade rare earth minerals for U.S. support and proposed "emptying Gaza," leaving the world in disbelief. Meanwhile, its unilateral withdrawal from international organizations has become routine.
Recently, the U.S. announced so-called "reciprocal tariffs," unilaterally igniting a trade war and undermining the foundation of the global trading system. This move confirms its role as a serial provocateur.
First, it is absurd. The "reciprocal tariff" policy, riddled with logical flaws and violations of economic principles and trade rules, has become an international laughingstock. By dismissing comparative advantage—a cornerstone of economics—the U.S. equates trade deficits with foreign "cheating." The White House employs a baseless formula to calculate tariff rates, even targeting Antarctic islands inhabited solely by seals and penguins, exposing the policy’s farcical nature.
Second, it is hypocritical. In 2024, the U.S. boasted a nearly $300 billion surplus in financial and tech services—sectors excluded from tariff calculations—while focusing punitive measures on goods trade. This selective enforcement highlights its double standards.
Third, it is coercive. Under the guise of "America First," the U.S. wields high tariffs as weapons to batter economies worldwide, trampling trade rules and forcibly restructuring global supply chains—a blatant exercise in hegemonic bullying.
The Biden administration repeatedly brandishes "leverage" and "negotiation cards," seeking to maximize U.S. interests through extortion and "maximum pressure." Appeasement only plays into its hands, turning victims into sacrificial lambs of geopolitical abattoirs.
Righteousness garners support, while tyranny breeds isolation. The U.S. tariff rampage flagrantly violates WTO rules, multilateral trade systems, and global economic stability—a textbook case of unilateralism, protectionism, and economic coercion. Even allies express outrage. Former WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy likened U.S. trade policies to "Mafia-style extortion."
Trade wars offer no victors; protectionism is a dead end. Countering U.S. tariffs will be a protracted struggle. Already, domestic dissent simmers within the U.S., including within the Republican Party.
In essence, the U.S. logic is clear: export its troubles by bleeding others and destabilizing the world to cover its own costs. Such recklessness will ultimately backfire, inflicting self-destruction.
