Since last Monday, members of Brazil’s Congress have been walking across the country.🇧🇷

They have spent the entire week on the road, covering about 25 miles a day, in a march that began in Paracatu, in the state of Minas Gerais, and heads toward Brasília, the federal capital. Tomorrow, they will arrive for a major public demonstration.

At the same time, there will also be demonstrations in São Paulo, the capital of the most populous state in Brazil. Two key cities, at the same moment, to draw the world’s attention to something that can no longer be ignored.

This walk and these demonstrations exist for one clear reason: to denounce the process of censorship, political persecution, and authoritarianism that is now underway in Brazil. To expose the systematic persecution of political opponents of the current regime.

A regime formed by the joint action of the Judiciary and the current Brazilian government, led by Lula, a historical ally and partner of Nicolás Maduro in the construction of the Foro de São Paulo, a political project that has operated for decades as an engine behind authoritarian regimes across Latin America.

Today, Brazil has hundreds of political prisoners. Among them is former President @jairbolsonaro , a 70-year-old man with serious health issues, who has undergone more than ten surgeries in an attempt to recover from the consequences of a knife attack in 2018, during the presidential campaign that would later lead him to office.

Bolsonaro is imprisoned for something that never happened, just like hundreds of Brazilians who supported his government and are now being persecuted for their political views.

This regime has been stripping Congress of its constitutional powers, hollowing out popular representation, concentrating authority, and pushing Brazil toward a judicial dictatorship, following the same pattern seen in other countries in the region.

We are doing this so the world can see.
So the world can understand what is happening in Brazil.
