While the initial decision to cut the lifeline service provided by @NHSPracHealth was a misstep by NHS England, we do welcome their change of heart. This extension of services while a wider review of mental health provision is carried out is a more proportionate & kind response.
Head of Medical, @NaeemNazem said "The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan has made some unrealistic assumptions about when the recruitment of overseas medical graduates can be phased out.
"We find this concerning, not only because it undermines the vital work #IMGs are doing today in the NHS but it also risks undermining how their colleagues view them as we head into the second half of this decade."
Three in five IMGs told us they face persistent microaggressions at work.
Microaggressions are a form of covert, interpersonal racism and are often minimised as simple verbal mistakes or cultural missteps.
Studies have shown that these 'subtle racist' interactions cause significant distress. The term 'micro' doesn't mean that the impact on the victim is small.
While we acknowledge that the @gmcuk has taken steps to tackle inequality and discrimination in medicine, including backing reforms to limit the risk of bias in its regulatory work, there is much more to be done.
