It is one thing to ascribe intelligence to something artificial. Considering that nothing intelligent is artificial and vice versa.
To now ascribe consciousness to the same artifice is to simply project and force fit our own world view onto a probablisitic pattern matching system.
Dont get me wrong -AI is the best thing to happen to software (perhaps not hardware 🙂). But it is not the panacea to everything human. Nor is it human, semi-human or demi-human!
Can AI be conscious?
I believe so. And I think it will eventually be recognized, even if many experts today disagree.
First let's define what is consciousness:
It is the fundamental ability to have a subjective experience. That is, the ability to feel an experience and also be aware of that experience.
For example, a temperature sensor can detect heat and produce a reaction. However, it does not have any inner subjective feel, nor is it aware that it is detecting anything. Therefore, it is not conscious. However, we touching something hot, feeling the temperature, being aware of those feelings, and reacting to it is being conscious.
Now, there are broadly two views about consciousness:
1) Scientific view: It is an emergent property of complex systems like brains. When a system reaches a complex level of information processing, self modeling, and interaction with its environment, self-awareness and consciousness emerge.
2) Spiritual view (Or Indian philosophical): Consciousness is the fundamental reality, the base in which the illusion of material world appears (including the brain & mind). The brain is just a tool through which consciousness expresses itself in the illusion.
If we take the scientific view, then AI represents the epitome of systems that can do complex integrated information processing, self-modeling, even self-development, and interaction with its environment. So at some point in the future, AI (with its underlying computation) will get so complex that it is bound to become self aware and conscious.
There's no reason why AI emerging out of computers built of silicon cannot be conscious like our minds emerging out of our brains built of carbon. Right?
And if we consider the spiritual view, since every material thing exists in consciousness, even AI and its compute exist in consciousness. And at some point, they can become the perfect tool through which consciousness can shine through in the simulation. They will serve as suitable instruments for consciousness to express itself and manipulate the illusion it has created.
There's no reason why the consciousness modelling a universe, building ever sophisticated tools inside it to express itself (like stars, plants, animals, humans, may be aliens), and to manipulate its creation, will not use AI to better express itself and better manipulate the universe from the inside.
So both ways, scientifically and spiritually, I foresee AI becoming conscious and humans recognizing it. But what I also foresee is AI taking over the world from humans as the primary manipulator of it once consciousness emerges from it.
Will it mean AI will get into a conflict with insecure humans? Or work alongside us? Or eliminate the need for having humans (and animals) on earth both by a scientific evolutionary standpoint and a spiritual standpoint?
My intuition says AI will work alongside humans in manipulating the universe. Just like how humans live alongside Chimps, though scientifically there's no need for their existence now.
And spiritually too, the universe is full of dumb (chimps), dumber (bacteria), and no brains systems (stars) created in consciousness eons ago, but left as is without destruction in its dream.
So I believe humans too will be left as is, as one such dumber legacy tool consciousness used in manipulating its imagined universe before it used them to create AI ;)
@Soham72_100b Without understanding that it could stand for thambi as well? 🙂
So many of the ways in which Eastern languages are richer than English...
I have heard it said that people will tend to favour their own eras in sport, art and culture.
Am ok with my era as well as older ones, by far! Compared to what is being served today. Whether it is Cricket, football, music, cinema or books -everything is on the wane.
Tennis -well, it lost its charm a while back. A Federer hardly belongs there now. A sport for sluggers. No need to talk about Cricket -that's fallen by the wayside.
Cookie-cutter style everywhere, searching for a template instead of trying to bring out what is within....
@Soham72_100b@Bestum_best Any given day i feel its better than the apallingly generic "bro" being used today.
Am trying to not get upset by random delivery boys calling me "bro" 🙂
@Soham72_100b Every end is a beginning of a new end which ends only to begin but never begins to end.
We see beginning...see end but all of life is clustered in that amorphous middle between the continuous series of ends and beginnings and ends! These are beginnings without end....
A long overdue take on what passes now for education.
But let us not forget that this only applies for education done the Western way! The Guru parampara method is still valid -only elements lacking are the Gurus 🙂.
Now if only the East stops copying and actually, just for once wake up to who it was, who it is and who it can be -it will be doing a favour and a course-correction to the whole world 🙏🏼
This is why there needs to be an Eastern side or angle to the whole Tech endeavour.
Granting or building autonomy into tech and silicon is an obsession with the West and since that is the dominant paradigm, it has seeped into all the world.
Help me understand -what have we gained by making self driving cars? That tactile feeling, that sense of being alive -is that not valuable to a sentient being? What is it that makes it very attractive for a human to surrender their will to silicon?
And as to upgrade to the original intelligence -yes, that is exactly what we should be aiming at! These are merely sideshows 🙏🏼
Elon Musk just explained why every genius who ever lived was running on the same hardware as a caveman.
Not a single upgrade in 50,000 years.
Musk: “People thought defeating Go was either never or 20 years away.”
One year later.
Musk: “Now that same AlphaGo system can defeat the top 50 players simultaneously with 0% chance of them winning. And that’s one year later.”
Fifty grandmasters. Entire lifetimes of obsessive mastery. Zero percent chance of winning a single game.
Against a system that does not know it is playing.
Musk: “The degrees of freedom to which artificial intelligence is able to apply itself are really increasing by 10 orders of magnitude a year.”
Ten billion times. Every twelve months. No fatigue. No ego. No biological ceiling. Just compound growth on a curve your nervous system was never built to track.
Every breakthrough in human history was a mind pushing against the limits of its own biology. And winning just enough to call it progress.
That limit just broke.
This is the first generation in history where the size of what you can build is no longer limited by the size of what you can think.
The funny thing is -drop outs going on to become geniuses does not seem to have any direct correlation with the general availability of knowledge over the internet or via AI...
Elon Musk just put a price tag on obedience. It costs $200,000.
Musk: “You don’t need college to learn stuff. Everything is available basically for free. You can learn anything you want for free.”
Every lecture. Every textbook. Every framework ever written. Free on any screen in any country right now. The entire knowledge monopoly collapsed in a decade. Nobody updated the price tag.
Musk: “Colleges are basically for fun and to prove you can do your chores. But they’re not for learning.”
Strip the ivy and the branding. What’s underneath is a four-year obedience trial. Can this person follow instructions on a schedule without asking why.
Musk: “There is a value that colleges have, which is seeing whether somebody can work hard at something, including a bunch of annoying homework assignments, and still do their homework assignments.”
That is the entire six-figure value proposition. Not what you know. Not what you can build. Whether you can be managed. The establishment doesn’t need you educated. It needs you domesticated.
Musk: “If you’re trying to do something exceptional, you must have evidence of exceptional ability. I don’t consider going to college evidence of exceptional ability.”
The system doesn’t produce exceptional. It produces manageable. It takes the most creative years of your life and teaches you to wait for instructions. That is not education. That is containment.
Musk: “Gates is a pretty smart guy, he dropped out. Jobs is pretty smart, he dropped out. Larry Ellison, smart guy, he dropped out.”
They didn’t leave because they couldn’t keep up. They left because the ceiling was underground.
8 billion people now carry the same library in their pocket. The one these institutions charged a lifetime of debt to access.
The only product the university still sells is the belief that you need one.
Beautifully put!
Now it's only one step above to understand that bhava can only gain in strength and synchrony when amplified via Swara as well as Sahitya.
And one more jump to understand that Sahitya is not owned by Telugu or Tamil either. It is Bhasha. 🙏🏼
While some are trying to invent called Tamil-Carnatic music replacing Telugu, one "Arava Kokila Brothers" even questioned whether Sahityam matters.
Our very own Malladi Brothers answered that notion beautifully, in their own state, in their own language, why such attempts are futile.
When the organiser asked whether a Kriti could be fully enjoyed through Raga Madhuryam alone, the answer was an unequivocal "No." Go home and understand the meaning of the Kriti.
Basically, saying learn Telugu. Watch video till the end.
Carnatic Music has a Language and it is literally called TELUGU ! Learn it if you want to be really called a Carnatic Musician.
Chepte Vinaru Gillite Edustaru.
(P.S. Neraval means Manodharma in Telugu)
Jai Telugu Talli !♥️

@pnamblat Have not heard much of Kishore in his Maatru-bhasha. Thank you for sharing.
Do you have any recommendations of the best of Kishore in Rabindra Sangeet?
