Today, the U.S. Department of State marks 237 years of advancing American diplomacy around the world. As we celebrate this milestone, we also recognize one of the Department's longest and proudest partnerships, with the Kingdom of Morocco, America's oldest friend.
Morocco was the first country to recognize the independence of the United States in 1777, and our enduring friendship, rooted in the 1786 Moroccan-American Treaty of Peace and Friendship, continues to strengthen cooperation, mutual respect, and shared prosperity nearly 250 years later.
