@AroundBirding for the sake of Canadian democracy, Poilievre really should go. he was a good foil for Trudeau but the federal gov't needs some serious adults in the room from all the parties given all the stuff going on in the world right now
@Pick_A_Lane@GadSaad@MarkJCarney well most of the taxes you pay are collected by the province or coming back to the province from the Feds. guess you've never seen a doctor before, gone to an airport or driven on the Trans Canada highway, visited Banff or Jasper, or crossed the border
@UnkleTwisted@GrandpaKen05 the effective tax rate on someone making $70K is like 15% in most provinces. even if you spent every after tax dollar on material goods and gas and included the 5% for CPP/EI, you would only get to like 25-33%. just ask chatgpt or do the math yourself
@GadSaad@MarkJCarney either Gad is really rich or he lacks basic knowledge of the Cdn tax system which uses a graduated income tax brackets. the top combined rate in AB is 48% and is paid only on income above $370K. the average Cdn prolly pays 15-25% of their income in income taxes
@prairieinvest HBC was killed by greedy American private equity that loaded the company up w debt, stripped out the real estate assets and ran the company into the ground. what Trump wants to do w Canada basically - take the resources and starve the rest
@acoyne if AI is going to take over the world, all gov'ts will need a stake in them so the wealth gets shared with the public. taxation along is not going to be enough
@CRAStoriesAlt@GaryScotianNS Carney has cut taxes - remember the carbon tax? - and has cut the federal gov't workforce. your definition of the centre is what most people would call the right
