Its Uganda that has been pushing for East African Intergration because President @Museveni understands the importance of integration. Other leaders and governments seem not to appreciate the value of integration
Our trade levels amongst countries within East African Community are still low majory because most governments tend to promote protectionism policies. Thats why you for example see Ugandan grains , poultry feeds or milk being rejected in Kenya or South Sudan over reasons which are often flimsy. So these policies tend to limit people's particoption, but with time we shall get there
You can travel to any EAC country apart from Burundi just by presenting a national Identity card courtesy of our work as East African Legislative Assembly
In today's @newvisionwire , my story of how I started my farm with 10 acres and now I have over 300 acres. I got the inspiration from President @KagutaMuseveni to venture into agriculture

We need the governments of East African Community to reduce Non Tarrif Barriers. I will champion this through Parliament of Uganda. We need the political will across the board
Hon Denis Namara: The biggest problem with the free movement of goods within the EAC is political goodwill. NTBs are a big challenge.

The removal of Non Tarrif Barriers will revolutionarize trade among EAC partner states by easing the time goods move from one point to another. We need it as early as yesterday
Hon Denis Namara: We, as Uganda, can sell our goods across East Africa, regardless of the challenges; we have NTBs, but at least most of our goods can be sold within our partner states.

There is a huge disconnection between Ministers/Ministries of EAC, EALA as a regional Parliament and the Parliamentary Committees on EAC in the domestic parliaments, we need to bridge the gap!
Hon. Denis Namara: I don't think the ministers of EAC are doing enough to deepen integration to ensure that we have a common currency.

DRC came with a population of 116M people, almost Uganda, Kenya & Rwanda combined. So political federation would help us pacify DRC to bring total peace which would create room for infrastructure development and hence taking advantage of this huge market
Hon. Denis Namara: Bringing Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) into the East African Community is one of our biggest achievements.
It has expanded the regional market for trade within East Africa.

We need to do this in the spirit of brotherhood just like we are constructing roads in the DRC, because at the end of the day when we strengthen this block we all mutually benefit
Hon. Denis Namara: I propose that Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania support countries like Burundi, South Sudan, and DRC that are behind in paying their EAC contributions.
This is because the larger economies benefit from them as they provide markets for our goods.

Free movement of goods across East Africa is good for all of us because citizens from each country will have an opportunity to trade freely with the other country. In this era where technology is removing physical boarders, its nolonger possable to restrict movement of goods and services
Hon Denis Namara: One of the biggest problems is sensitization; there is a need to sensitise all stakeholders to appreciate integration in its entirety; anyone stopping the free movement of goods is an enemy of East Africa.

Hon Denis Namara: The EAC has not lost its relevance rather the people who are implementing the programs of the EAC have lost track; they donβt understand what is going on.

Hon. Denis Namara: One of the biggest challenges I have observed in the East African Legislative Assembly is that national interests often take precedence over regional interests.
