Yearly reminder that Oda specifically got himself involved in this scene of Film Gold because he did not like the original ending. He personally drew storyboards and wrote this scene. Its to show a contrast between Tesoro and how much he wanted to save Stella, but couldn't.

Luffy showed the same emotions for Nami being captured the same way Tesoro did for Stella. The intention behind this scene for Oda can be seen clearly to some, but to others not really. It is still interesting to see that Oda personally got himself involved to write and storyboard this sequence for the movie.
