Our cities can’t survive the rate at which people are buying vehicles. Sooner than later everyone will be stuck in every city. Vehicle ownership is not the issue but daily commute is. Many that own vehicles choose bus and train and metro.

Investing in mass public transport systems is a no-brainer for any city. A small % of income tax must go towards building public transport systems by law.

Hope the @GBA_office @GBAChiefComm can make things move faster for metro and bus and suburban train. Step 1 would be to form the BMLTA and conduct household travel demand survey. Govt of India must give a special grant to the city for public transport considering the role of Bengaluru in India’s economy.

Here's the problem.

When Indian municipalities issue tenders, it is mainly for carriageway-only (resurfacing/asphalting) with minimal or no explicit mention of footpath/cycle infrastructure.

In developed countries(including EU), tenders more frequently include integrated street works including footpaths, cycle lanes, drainage, lighting, and landscaping.

Footpaths, cycle tracks, etc.. don't even receive the funding and care they deserve because the entire funds are poured into the carraigeway.

I have attached 2 sample tenders - one Indian, the other from Europe for reference.

If the Tunnel project is scrapped, it would be a victory for Bengaluru's civil society that keeps checks and balances alive.

That said, for politicians, nothing leaves a legacy quite like building public transport.

People still remember who built the Delhi Metro.
