“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in.” - Haruki Murakami
Today @CPSRedTornadoes k-8 teachers joined together to start the year with the #7Steps to a language rich interactive classroom 🤩 Superintendent Tyler Bridges reminded us to BE THE ONE, & that these are OUR students. @Seidlitz_Ed
@dst6n01 1. Encourage a love of reading not tied to testing (book clubs, book talks, choice, etc.)
2. Pay secondary ELA Ts more or give them smaller class sizes to better manage feedback on writing
3. Make sure T prep programs actually prepare Ts to teach reading & writing

Let’s remember that Beverly Cleary wrote a book in the 70s in which Ramona’s mom goes to work full-time, making her the sole breadwinner, & she doesn’t have time to sew Ramona’s Christmas pageant costume, so Ramona wears PJs.
A toast to Beverly Cleary from moms who work.
Empathy and boundaries protect from bitterness.
The bitter will break and break others. Leaving behind carnage and carrying deep wounds.
Break chains, wrestle principalities but win people. And if they're not to be won, rest and move on. Move.
Human beings need forgiveness like we need oxygen. We can’t live with the fiction that we’re flawless, and when we fail, there is nothing we need more than an act of love.
