Pray with me
February 8, 2026
Lord God, You are my refuge and my strength, present before the day begins and faithful when it ends. Before a word rises on my tongue, You already know it, and before a step is taken, You have gone ahead of me. I declare that You reign above the noise, above the chaos, above the fear that tries to crowd my heart. The earth may shake and the nations may rage, but You remain unmovable. Your throne is not threatened, Your promises do not expire, and Your mercy does not run dry.
I will not be ruled by anxiety or driven by headlines, and I will not bow to despair or partner with hopelessness. I choose truth over fear and faith over feelings, fixing my eyes on You instead of the storm. You are my light when the path is unclear, my defender when accusations rise, and my shepherd when I do not know which way to turn. You restore my soul, steady my steps, and lead me in the way everlasting.
I declare that my life belongs to You. My breath is a gift from Your hand, my time is held in Your wisdom, and my future is secure because You are faithful. Let my mouth speak praise instead of panic, let my mind dwell on what is true and eternal, and let my hands be quick to serve and slow to clench in fear.
Even in the valley, You are with me. Even in the waiting, You are working. Even in the silence, You remain faithful. So today I will trust You, walk uprightly, and stand firm. I will bless the Lord at all times, and Your praise will continually be in my mouth. You are God, and I am Yours, and that is enough.

CS Lewis said: "If I wanted happiness, a good bottle of Port would do that." No, if you want lasting contentment, lasting happiness, you got to be thankful. You've got to be grateful. You've got to have gratitude.
Christmas Carol History: Mary Did You Know?
One of the most loved modern Christmas songs began as a set of reflective lines written by Mark Lowry in 1984. Lowry had been asked to write a script for a church Christmas program, and as he imagined Mary holding the newborn Christ, he wondered what must have been going through her mind. What did she understand? What did she not yet see? He began writing a series of questions that explored the mystery of God becoming flesh and placing Himself in the arms of a young mother.
For several years the lyrics existed without a melody. Then in 1991, musician Buddy Greene composed a tune that carried the reverence, quiet wonder, and emotional weight the words needed. When the two were paired, the song instantly came alive. It felt like a meditation, a slow walk through the staggering reality that the baby Mary rocked to sleep was the Lord who created her.
The power of the song is in its questions. It does not try to give answers. It invites the listener to stand beside Mary and feel the awe of the incarnation. Did she know that her child would heal, rule, save, and redeem? Did she grasp that she was kissing the very face of God? These questions lift our eyes from the sentimental to the sacred.
Through dozens of recordings, church performances, and Christmas specials, the song has become a modern classic. It resonates because it leads us straight to worship. It reminds us that Christmas is not small. It is the miracle of the Son of God entering our world to rescue His people.
These feel like uniquely evil days. My heart is heavy. Some possible strategies:
1. much time in prayer, much time in texts like John 14-16
2. fresh resolve to fight evil and promote good
3. less time online
4. one step at a time, one day at a time
Charlie Kirk said, “I want to be remembered for courage for my faith…the most important thing is my faith in my life.” A single bullet silenced his voice on that platform yesterday, but it can’t erase his influence, his legacy, and his testimony for Jesus Christ. Just a few days before his death, he posted, “Jesus defeated death so you can live.” He wasn’t afraid or ashamed to talk about his faith. Watching him makes me want to be even more bold! I think the devil has overplayed his hand. I pray that tens of thousands of young people will pick up Charlie’s banner and courageously speak truth in a culture that tries to deny God‘s truth. This week Charlie posted, “Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life…Tell someone about Jesus this weekend.” What a challenge for us all! Will you?
When horrific evil strikes, sometimes all I can do is go to these words of the Lord's prayer: "your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
I am so thankful to be a Christian and have a hope that is beyond this world and informs what we seek in this world.
A happy and helpful reminder for each day: Jesus is coming back to take us home.
"Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior" (Philippians 3:20).
This world is much more bearable when we remember we are living in exile, and one day we will be home.
Every once in a while, I come back to this wisdom of this video from Rich Mullins. It’s especially pertinent today in light of another CCM celebrity (Michael Tait) causing damage to the reputation of Christ and his church. Go to church!
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:10-13)
