China is doing practical things to protect marine ecosystems.
The “Blue Circle” project launched by Zhejiang Province on the east coast has collected about 77,000 tons of marine waste since 2020, including around 51,000 tons of plastic waste, cutting carbon emissions by around 66,000 tons, equivalent to taking over 50,000 cars off the road for a whole year.
In 2023, it won the United Nations’ Champions of the Earth award.
