Anyone can be a victim of domestic or sexual violence and abuse, irrespective of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or background.
Men often not only find it harder to come forward, due to stigma, but to be taken seriously and access the support services they need.
.@Justice_NI Minister @naomi_long & @healthdpt Minister Mike Nesbitt met with @CVOCNI Geraldine Hanna on Supporting Male Victims of Domestic Abuse Day to discuss the services required by male victims of domestic & sexual abuse.
@Margare77981019@irvine_pat@tafkamichael Join the police and become Chief Constable and you can write it for them, in that case.
I'd say they know what they're doing, though.
@tafkamichael@norham7@NewsLetter_Pols It seems that rather than protecting women, which the guidance does, you are determined to humiliate or make trans people uncomfortable.
That's one for you to sort out in your own head.
We're simply upholding the right of any officer to refuse to conduct/supervise a search.
@tafkamichael@norham7@NewsLetter_Pols This isn't about a pat-down to remove dangerous items.
It's up to the police how they operate PACE, and this is what professional officers have recommended.
Bearing in mind how few strip searches are conducted and the tiny number of trans people, it's never been an issue.
@tafkamichael@norham7@ChiefConPSNI@paulfrewDUP No, it isn't. But you can't see anything beyond your own ideological bias.
I'm simply implementing protections for everyone in custodial settings in line with UK best practice. The Committee worked with us on this and gender critical members are content with the approach.

@tafkamichael@norham7@NewsLetter_Pols I support the arrangements put in place that base searches on sex and, where someone is transgender, the search will only proceed where everyone involved gives consent to how it is conducted. Any officer retains the right to refuse to search without detriment.
@irvine_pat@tafkamichael Before it was rarely done, and where required was handled on a case by case basis. There were no complaints as any officer can decline to search.
Due to the Supreme Court Ruling, etc, the NPCC brought forward guidance to assist Chief Constables and that's what's being applied.
@tafkamichael That's exactly what this does. It applies the same rules to searching as the rest of the UK.
The more you tweet the clearer it becomes that you don't know what you are talking about.
The guidance referenced is National Police Chiefs. It applies in England, Scotland and Wales.
@tafkamichael@norham7@NewsLetter_Pols That requires both resources and time, neither of which I have to pursue every occasion I'm misrepresented, including by you. When politicians do sue, we get accused of trying to fetter free speech.
Anyone who wants facts can check Hansard. Every single party backed this.
@norham7@tafkamichael We are not always bound by the NPCC locally but, when amending the PACE Codes, the Committee asked we be explicit about handling. The @ChiefConPSNI gave reassurance but they wanted further clarity, so we provided that by being explicit about the NPCC guidance. @paulfrewDUP
Disappointed SF + DUP voted together to delay scrutiny of my tree protection Bill + @PaulaJaneB’s flags Bill by 9 weeks today
It needed to happen now because we have a reduced mandate due to political dysfunction
Precedent has already been set with other Bills
Shameful
@ni_wrn This is nonsense and a distortion of the position. It works exactly the same way as PACE codes across the rest of the UK. Officers have the right to refuse to search any prisoner, as per the National Police Chiefs' Guidance, with no detriment to their career. Ask @BeattieDoug
@tafkamichael This is utter rubbish. It makes clear that a search will only take place where officers are comfortable to do the search and that they can refuse with no detriment. That's how PACE is operating right across the UK in line with the Supreme Court judgement.
@tafkamichael@mandy_mcauley It's actually the National Police Chiefs' Guidance not mine. It reinforces the right of any officer to refuse to search any person if uncomfortable, without detriment to their career.
Believe what you read in the News Letter at your peril especially when spun by certain MLAs.

We wanted an independent review to find savings through more shared services and tackling & cost of division. Sinn Féin & the DUP blocked it.
While more money is needed from Westminster, it isn't the only solution, & as it stands others are refusing to look at the next steps.
