Ogun Now Has N16trn Economy, Abiodun says as MAG Group Pledges $2.5bn Disneyland Investment
Ogun State Governor, Prince @DapoAbiodunCON, has disclosed that the state economy has increased fourfold, jumping from N3.5 trillion to N16 trillion in the last six years.
This was just as the state secured an investment pledge in the range of $1.8 billion to $2.5 billion.
Prince Abiodun made the disclosure when he met with Messrs. Fayad Fayad, the Strategic Advisor, and Hassan Fayad, Public Relations and Communication Officer of MAG Group, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor also revealed that the state’s foremost tourist center, Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, generates about N20 million on a weekly basis after its renovation, compared to the same amount generated yearly before the turnaround of the tourist center.
According to the governor, Ogun State has, in the last six years, grown in leaps and bounds in the areas of economic development, improved infrastructure, provision of basic amenities, and reinvigorated tourist centers across the state.
He said: "We are one of the two best-performing states in Nigeria. We are the fastest-growing economy in the country. Our economy, between 2019 and 2025, has quadrupled from N3.5 trillion to N16 trillion."
Governor Abiodun expressed surprise at the number of people turning out to visit Olumo Rock after its renovation, noting that it was an indication that if tourist sites were well maintained and functional, they could provide an alternative place for relaxation and revenue generation.
He lauded the organization for choosing the state to invest in tourism, hotels, and recreation, adding that apart from the conducive business environment, it is blessed with a large land mass, good infrastructure, and the necessary human capital.
"I don't have any doubt about the competitive advantage of this state. All the ingredients that you need for the patronage of a large leisure facility are here, and I think that you have not made any error in coming as we provide the best option for investments," he said.
Responding, the Strategic Adviser, MAG Group, Fayad Fayad, said his organization is bringing an investment worth between $1.8 billion and $2.5 billion that would focus on hospitality and entertainment.
"We are very happy to be here today in Ogun State; we are very proud to initiate this project. This is definitely the first project, and it is between the range of $1.8 billion to $2.5 billion. Very soon, you will hear very good news.
"There is an initiative that we presented to His Excellency, which is about having a Disneyland resort within Ogun State; it will be the first in Africa.
"It is a huge project for entertainment and tourism. There will be parks, entertainment, hotels, and water parks.
"We have a lot of projects to do together; we can see the vision, we can see the leadership, and we can see the growth of the economy. Hopefully, we will work side by side with Ogun State, and the sky is the limit," he submitted.
Congratulations to our outstanding President and PRO of NAOSS OOU for emerging winners at the Lagos NIPR pitch contest! 🎉
Your excellence makes us proud!
OGUN GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT GETS NCAA APPROVAL FOR FLIGHTS OPERATION
The Ogun State Gateway International Airport has received an Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), authorizing it to operate Scheduled Commercial Air Transport flights. The announcement was made by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who described the milestone as historic and the first of its kind in Nigeria.
The approval follows a successful technical inspection, on-site verification, and audit of the facility. According to the Governor, NCAA officials have commended the Gateway International Airport as a benchmark for what airports should be in the country, underscoring its advanced infrastructure and operational readiness.
Under the terms of the permit, the airport holds an Aerodrome Reference Code of 3C and an ARFFS Category of 6. It will operate during the day from sunrise to sunset, with a non-precision runway operating category for Runway 05/23 and an Area Navigation (RNAV) approach type.
In a boost to its international profile, a major global company has committed to operating two weekly cargo flights from London to the Gateway International Airport. The facility has also been designated as the alternate airport to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, enhancing its strategic value for both domestic and international operations.
Governor Abiodun also disclosed that passenger flights will commence soon, with initial direct routes to Abuja and Port Harcourt. He emphasized that the development will open fresh opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism, firmly placing Ogun State on the global map.
“With world-class infrastructure, international connectivity, and a strategic location, the Gateway International Airport will redefine air travel standards in Nigeria and stand as a proud symbol of our vision for a greater Ogun State,” the Governor said.
The commencement of full operations at the Gateway International Airport marks a significant step in Ogun State’s economic transformation agenda, reflecting the administration’s commitment to building a future of growth and global relevance.
OGUN STATE MAKES AVIATION HISTORY AS NCAA GRANTS COMMERCIAL OPERATIONAL PERMIT
We are delighted to announce that our Gateway International Airport has, today, officially received an Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to operate Scheduled Commercial Air Transport flights. This historic milestone follows a successful technical inspection, on-site verification, and audit of the facility — making it the first approval of its kind in Nigeria. NCAA officials have described our airport as a benchmark for what airports should be in the country, and we are glad that history has been made.
Under the terms of the permit, the Gateway International Airport has been certified with an Aerodrome Reference Code of 3C and an ARFFS Category of 6, with a non-precision runway operating category for Runway 05/23 and an Area Navigation (RNAV) approach type.
We are equally pleased to share that a major international company has agreed to commence two weekly cargo flights from London to the Gateway International Airport. Our facility will also serve as the designated alternate airport to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, a strategic advantage that will enhance both domestic and international travel.
Passenger flights will also begin soon, with initial direct routes to Abuja and Port Harcourt. This landmark achievement firmly places Ogun State on the global map, unlocking new opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism.
With world-class infrastructure, international connectivity, and a strategic location, we are confident that the Gateway International Airport will redefine air travel standards in Nigeria and stand as a proud symbol of our vision for a greater Ogun State.
