A new AlertCalifornia camera named Soda Canyon is now live on Atlas Peak, strengthening early wildfire detection in Napa County. This AI-enabled system can quickly identify smoke and fire starts, giving CAL FIRE/Napa County Fire critical time to respond faster and more effectively.
This installation was made possible through collaboration with Circle R Ranch, AlertCalifornia, CAL FIRE, and UC San Diego - another example of partnerships making our communities safer.
Atlas Peak and the surrounding areas have seen significant fire activity in recent years, including the 2017 Atlas Fire and the 2022 Old Fire. These incidents highlighted the need for rapid detection and coordinated response, especially in remote and high-risk terrain.
With this new technology in place, firefighters gain enhanced situational awareness, improved decision-making, and the ability to stop fires while they’re still small.
Early detection saves lives, property, and resources.
